My seven and a half year old niece wants to go running with me. How far do you think she should run for her first proper run ? She is pretty fit anyway as she lives on a farm and is outdoors running about most of the time.
Between 1 and 3 miles.
My eight-year-old comes out with me occasionally, we probably do about1-1.5 miles all told but I don't push it and if he wants to walk bits, we walk. Main thing is to keep it easy and no pressure - like you say, they spend most of their time running around anyway, just it's in short bursts rather than long sustained efforts.
