Will be getting back into a stricter training program this week after being very slack for the last couple of months - hopefully daughters will cooperate by sleeping thorugh the night as between the three of them we have been woken up 3/4 times a week for the last couple of months

Also must get back to the doctors for another thyroid test as at last check up they were concerned that it was underactive and there is a history of underactive thyroid in the family.

Hope fully if can get this sorted and some undisturbed sleep I might find a bit more enthusiasm to get up and out for the morning runs again. I know once I am up and out I will enjoy it. I will hold off posting miles till later as wouldn't want to drag the average down too much.

Rest day today so just did 5 miles first thing Racing on Saturday and Sunday this week!

Just had a call informing me that I was not successful with the internal job interview on Wednesday. Delighted with that as I can keep focussed on the training and don't have to worry about board reports and travelling to Cardiff and Bury St Edmonds every week.

Have a good weekend all

Have taken it "VERY" easy with my hip flexor (advice heeded Jason!) and had just two runs this week at a very slow pace. Plenty of stretches and listening to my body and it would appear things are back to normal. Not even the slightest hint of a twinge during my dynamic stretches this morning and a nice slow 5.5 miles around the lanes. Will have tomorrow off and resume Monday. My next aim is to get off the bottom of the league table

Enjoy your weekend peeps

6m this morning including leading the troops home in Parkrun, 10m lunchtime and 4m recovery this evening with a few bits along the way= 20.47m for the day

Aaargh! It's all going pear shaped for me!

I've been running well (for me) in training for the Paris marathon. I've got 6 long runs in the bank (18, 19, 2 x 20, 2x21), and then it went wrong. I was due to do 22 last weekend but stopped at 5 as my throat was incredibly sore and I was needing to pee every couple of miles.

Since then I've done nothing as I have a throat infection, totally lost my voice and had to stay off work (I teach). Started to feel a bit more human & returned to work on Friday. Lacking the energy to run though so just did an easy 4 today. I'm on holiday from Thursday and hope to manage my planned taper training next week.

Those of you who are more experienced than I, what effect could it have on the marathon? I don't know whether to set off as planned (had hoped for sub 4 which I last achieved in 2010 off a 1:47:12 half). This time in training I've done more (5 runs a week rather than 4) and got my half down to 1:42:37 with a sub 77 10 miler.

It should have been do-able but I don't want to set myself up to fail I've lost the fitness through an extended taper/break.

All thoughts appreciated.

You will be fine clag. You have good long runs in the bank, 10-14 days rest will not harm your performance, I have just had to have about 10 days off running due to illness and I felt great when I got back into it. I felt ok after about 8 days but gave myself a couple more days.

When you are better do a couple of 5 mile runs and then continue with your program.
Good luck and hope you get better soon

S3200H I agree with you.

Managed to avoid the worst of the weekend weather by going over to Bruges for a few days. Had a scattering of snow but not enough to stop me racking up some miles including a 22 which is 4.5 times around the town - boring but got it done!

2 big weeks to go now before London (well, big for me)

Back on track. Did a wee session of hill reps. Just a few runs left before the big day.

JR- Did you log your miles for last month? Well done on leading the charge!

01/04/2013 at 11:41

Only going for 200 this month. 70 miles this week with the Blackpool half on Sunday and then tapering a little for London - can't wait to:

a) Run less

b) Not be continually tired

c) eat and drink what the hell I like
