You wouldn't get me up in one of those........

Nor me.

Launch scheduled for 15.39 (BST) today by the way.

Ooooh, the countdown timer went to 0000 then started counting up the way again.

Did someone stick the shuttle in reverse by mistake?

It can certainly shift - now thats what I call speedwork

17,000 mph in 8 minutes.

Even Clarkson would be impressed.

So what does it do 0-60mph in?

It's doing 200 by the time it clears the tower. Or something.

I'd do it without a moment's hesitation myself, although whoever designed it without an escape system (unlike all rockets up to then) wants shooting. They thought the shuttle wouldn't need them, which is daft in retrospect, as in both fatal accidents, fairly simple safety systems on the cabin compartments would have saved the crews.
