If there is one song that every runner should listen to, it is "Marathon" by Canadian rock band Rush. It was released in 1985, and is a fantastic song to listen to when running, as the lyrics are so insiring. A short extract of lyrics:

"It's a test of ultimate will,
The heartbreak climb uphill.
Got to pick up the pace,
If you want to stay in the race."

"You can do a lot in a lifetime
If you don't burn out too fast.
You can make the most of the distance,
First you need endurance-
First you've got to last-"

al-pal, what album was it on as i am a more of a spirit of radio or bastille day runner

The album was Power Windows, released 1985.

Go out and buy it, you should be able to pick it up for about a fiver, these days.

Spirit of Radio is not bad either! Did you know that Rush are still about these days? They released a new album earlier this year, it's a bit heavier than usual, but good none-the-less.
