I know Gordon Ramsay can put in a decent shift was wondering if anyone else there wasnt half bad. I'm assuming Nell McAndrew would be the fastest going in under 3 hours last year.
Michel Roux regularly beats Ramsey
Depending on your definition of z-list celeb, Matthew Parris, MP/journalist: 2:32:57. Tasty!
More obviously in the public eye as a celeb-marafun-runner, Tony Audenshaw (Emmerdale): 2:58:49. Not bad!
Google is your friend:

Results from 2012 place Nell mcAndrew as the fastest, with James cracknell being the only other one to break the 3 hour mark.
Quite happy to admit I don't recognise most of the people shown in the photos
I shouldn't have started looking, some americans as well:

Most impressive (to me) is George W Bush doing sub 3:45 in 1993. For some reason, I'm suspicious of Lance Armstrong improving by 15 minutes between 2006 and 2007

"Hell, sometimes they run London Marathon's and all!"
"But what about the star's finishing times?"
Quality journalism!

Haha I remember reading about Lance Armstrong doing a triathalon and I was staggered by his times ........ then a few weeks later all the drug stuff came out. The problem is LA probably is actually an exceptional athlete but his need for drugs tipped him over the edge and will make everyone forget about anything he's achieved. As Ben Johnsons doctor once said 'You can give steroids to a donkey, but its not going to make him a racehorse.'
Not that Im in anyway condoning what he did, Im just saying if the fool hadn't gone down that path, he may well have done well naturally.

Matthew Parris the MP ? He was well under 3 hours.
2:32
Matthew Parris was a quality runner.
While we are on the subject of politicians, and getting a bit obscure, Mikuláš Dzurinda, former Prime Minister of Slovakia, ran 2:54:xx, and whilst Premier did NYC and London (3:36:xx)
Reliability obviously questionable but wiki page linked below lists quite a few...

How did Oprah manage to get round in 4 hours 30 minutes? I always assumed she was ...... well ....ummm, how do I put this delicately ... a 'larger than life' character ...
How did the Big Brother contestant who's name escapes me get on at London? Jade Goody! With a name like that she must have had a Good-y time!
From that Wiki link,
Alan Turing, mathematician and cryptologist, 1947 Amateur Athletic Championships Marathon (2:46:03)
Seems like the geeky image of your typical boffin / codebreaker / computer scientist doesn't include an inability to do sport.

Why do I get the impression that post was more about you, than it was about Alan Turing
Don't worry also - ran, I think youre the geek that done good!
Nell McAndrew's ace now she's a runner. She always used to be lame as a z lister. Excellent to see that she's still running through her pg too (apologies in advance for link to Daily Hell) http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-2238618/Expectant-mother-Nell-McAndrew-goes-run-confessed-shell-exercising-pregnancy.html
