The trick is to get ahead of the traffic. Then it isn't crowded:

Cheers Colin; now you are getting grief on my account
I could quite easily get a good for age qualifying time but the VLM looks a bit too much pain, just to start! My next marathon is in the Brecon Beacons then Exmoor; much more my style but people do say the VLM is worth it. The experience that is, not the extra chemical assistance. Have just done a bit of the Exmoor course the views, the waterfalls, the hills, the pure air are all the drugs I need

I used to be a bit anti London until I ran it, but if you're fast enough you can keep out of the crowds. I'm going back for my 4th and have decided I'll keep going as long as I get Champ start or GFA. When's Exmoor, I live in Exeter and run for SWRR, are you local too?
Exmoor is 13th of April it is an Endurancelife event and nearly booked up on all distances (10k, 1/2, full and ultra) if you can, you need to do the first and last 10k of the marathon course. It is a brutal course; first 10k is just hard (incline and underfoot). The last 10k is a series of hills that is deceptive. Definately do it, the scenery and location are perfect! The start is 6 miles from home for me, and, no I will not be running there!
