Went to the physio yesterday with a prob with my left calf only to be told that it wasn't as bad as I had thought but that I should be looking at the back of my other leg. The start of a bakers cyst. He offered no advice on halting the problem and a "if its not hurting leave it alone" approach.
Wondered if there was anything that I could do to make sure it doesnt get any worse.
I have a similar problem associated with a slightly torn cartlige. I still run regularly (30 miles a week and managed 1/2 marathon distance this morning on 1:45) and it causes me little pain.
An orthopedic consultant I saw suggested that I keep running if it was causing me little discomfort as an operation to sort it would require the removal of a pretty large section of cartlige.
I'd suggest you get the advice of a specialist to see what is actually causing this.

Just been diagnosed with one of these myself - and have also pulled the calf in the same leg, which my physio is sure must be because I was walking differently because the Bakers Cyst was so uncomfortable (ironically, it wasn't affecting my running at all, and I am (was) doing marathon training mileage).
In my case, the provisional cause is torn cartilage in the knee (which is apparently not as bad as it sounds!), but I have to see a specialist for further investigation.
Main recommendation from the physio was to ice it regularly and make sure that I am stretching the muscles above and below it every day.
I am also getting ultrasound, having allowed it to swell up too much before doing anything about it.
General view is that I should be able to keep running (once the calf is healed), though - same as for Ali, by the sound of it.
