bursitis and ultrasound

Hi,
I've been having problems with an inflamed calcaneal bursa which is taking long (8 weeks so far) to heal.
The achilles tendon is fine, and the calf muscles seem ok too. Since it's very hard to massage the bursa effectively (impossible if the retrocalcaneal one is also inflamed, which I don't know), I thought to give ultrasound a try.
I happen to have access to a portable unit with pulses of 1Mhz and power of 0.5 watts per cm square. I would greatly appreciate opinions on whether treatment with such a machine would be useful, as well as an indication of how to conduct the sessions: how long should one session be and how often should it be repeated?

Does anyone have any tips about when and how to "taper off" training for a marathon?

I'm doing The Grizzly in Seaton, Devon, this Sunday. And then I've got the Paris Marathon on 9th April.

Question is, should I treat myself to an easy/recovery week next week, then get back to my normal marathon for another week, and then slow down for a couple more weeks in time for Paris?
