Chronic sinusitis

I'm one of the lucky people who got a place in the last FLM but managed to have chronic sinusitis which I mistook for panic attacks and therefore didn't get sorted until March (symptoms were movement of any kind such as walking up from the tube resulted in gagging and retching) So the result was a very unhappy runner who deferred the place thinking I would do it this year.

I've now had another bout of sinusitis which has been on and off since November - in November, I was very fit - had just been on a hard trekking holiday and felt ready for training. Now, I'm struggling to run 2 miles without gagging/ retching, am exhausted due to the lack of oxygen generally and don't feel as though I have anywhere near the fitness I had in November.

I'm seeing my GP and currently on antibiotics but suspect I will be pushing for a referral to ENT. And I'm also considering giving up the place for the marathon - which I don't want to, but realistically I'm not able to enjoy the running at the moment. I just want to know I'm not a complete failure for giving up on it twice - or if anyone has some amazing suggestions for curing this.

At the very first sign of sinus problems in the future, try inhaling the steam from a bowl of hot water with Vicks in it.  Have you tried doing that anyway?

As Vicky says steam inhalation,  3-4 times a day

Vicks is good as it has eucalyptus but the best mix of aromatherapy oils i have found for clearing sinus problems are 2 drops eucalyptus, 2 drops marjoriam and 2 drops lavender.

also reduce your dairy intake as this produces mucus and take a vit c tablet as this will help reduce the inflamation and help your immune system cope.

Have just been told by Dr to avoid Vicks ?? and other cough medicines but steam with olba oil is fine.

Have been doing the steaming as well as hot honey and lemon - but now on two weeks of antibiotics (have just done a week) as well as steriod inhaler.
