disorientation during FLM

Hi!

Did the FLM this month :-)

When I got to mile 19-20 or so, I hit a sticky patch, my legs felt awful, no energy etc, classic wall symptons right?
But in addition I was totally disorientated, literally couldn't see people around me, and crashed into a dozen or so (apologies!)

Pulled up for about 5 mins, and it was weird, couldn't literally see or focus on the people running past. Was OK after that, but am curious, was this dehydration? It was super hot, and I did drink lots (3 lucozades, 3-4 waters by that point) but maybe not enough?

Never had any episodes like it b4.

Thanks :-)

Sounds very, very like hypoglycaemia to me. Those are classic symptoms. It's nasty.

I had a similar experience in a 10km some years ago, where I literally hadn't eaten the day before. I reached the finish and was too disorientated to even go as far as the finish line. Luckily someone forced me to, and I was fine once I had drunk some Coke.

the same thing happened to my wife in a 10k last week for no apparent reason - a very scarey experience, i think she will be carrying jelly babies and having sports drink before runs now.
