I've been toying with asking this since watching "Wheelchair Challenge" on Tuesday night but didnt in case anyone thought I was trying to make a cheap gag (I'm not) but if sitting in an aeroplane for a long time causes DVT, why doesn't sitting in a wheelchair for much of the day, every day bring this condition on? Or does it?

You're quite right, it does. For the same reasons of immobility and poor blood flow. I've looked after several people who have had DVT from temporary or permanent wheelchair use.

If anyone is interested here's the DoH advice on DVT and travel:

Almost get to the end of a post without a link but then mouse-finger twitched.
