Groin Injury - advice??

Groin Injury

Hi all,

Really unhappy that I'm injured.  Don't remember doing it, it just started aching around the groin area - quickly turning into pain that is stopping me fully committing to my netball and running.  I currently play netball 4 times a week and squeeze in my running around that.  I was due to take place in the Coventry Half Marathon this weekend - but alas I cannot!!!!!!!!!

The Dr told me I was old (33!!!!) and perhaps should consider giving up netball - ha ha ha ha ha ha ha.

Has anyone got any advice or a quick fix - apparently it's an inguinal sports injury.  I can play netball still, but not at my best and am very sore in the morning - there's no bruising, no lump.  HELP!!!!

Can't offer advice Howlsy, only empathy.

I'm 43 and tore my calf playing badminton 8 weeks ago.  It's healed just about now but it scuppered my training for the Godiva 1/2, so I won't be running on Sunday.

Stay positive and I hope you 'll be 100% again soon.

BTW, 33's no age!

Thanks Medals - gutted about Sunday, I was really looking forward to it.

The things we do to ourselves - your calf injury sounds very sore, don't feel so alone now!

Any thanks for the comment on my age - didn't feel old until I visited the Dr - won't be going back there in a hurry

Your comment about commiting yourself rang bells with me.

I've been playing badmington again for the last 3 weeks, but I'm scared stiff that I'll tear the muscle again if I go full pelt, so I've been taking a drubbing as a result.

I'm gutted about Sunday too.  I'm going off to Snowdonia to make up for it.

Lucky you - I will be cheering my kids on in the fun run, so I'll be watching everyone getting ready for the 1/2.  I do like to torture myself.

I went to netball training last night - I played like a muppet, oh well, there's always tonight - wish me luck.

Have a great time in Snowdonia - you're not going climbing are you? Stay in the pub it's far healthier!

Not climbing no.

I'm attempting to introduce my 14 & 11 year old daughters to the delights of hillwalking.  Hah, some hope!

They'd rather have their heads stuck in a Nintendo DS, so I'm going to have my work cut out.  Tough love eh?

Hope you get on well tonight.  I actually took a game off my mate last night so, like you say, (slightly paraphased) there's always next time.

Played last night - put ice spray on beforehand and took a couple of ibuprofen - didn't feel too bad, a couple of really bad twinges.  It's no worse this morning, so I shall ignore my dr's advice of giving up and go and play again tonight.

I know what you mean about the DS, both my daughters have one, I can't drag them away!
