ibuprofen

i have an ongoing knee problem, after some research i think its probably torn cartiledge which has caused a baker cyst, but am trying to get a doc's appointment next week to confirm, anyway, the thing is i can run if i pop a couple of ibuprofen or similar, but how long can you do this for until it could potentially start causing other problems?, i would normally just rest but am meant to be doing a half marathon in about 4 weeks time so i need to be training

p.s. i realise self diagnosis is  unreliable but, just been checking out the symptoms and it all adds up.

I run on ibuprofen all the time  I did something to my hip a few weeks ago and Thursday was the first morning I got up and was able to walk without limping without taking ibuprofen. I have however been running and it seems to be improving despite that. guess it really depends what your injury is, mine wasn't an overuse one!

Personally, I think you'd be mad to continue running with this injury.  Ibuprofen my stop it hurting, but you need rest to repair it.  If you run on it you'll be risking making it worse and you could end up needing surgery.

Discretion sometimes the better part

I agree with CM I think you need to address the pain and injury rather than mask the symptoms with ibuprofen. Doing anything else will not help the problem long term imho

A word of warning - if any of you suspect a bone-related injury, don't take ibuprofen, it's known to delay healing.

Paracetamol/Codine exclusively.
