anyone help with this one-i'm having my right big toenail sliced up on friday and they are talking about a 4-6 week healing process which clearly is a bummer as far as flm training is concrened.how soon is it likely to be before i can run and how soon to resume spedwork?

yes, oh many toenailed one!i have been told not to drive home afterwards as a numb foot probably invalidates the insurance...not sure this chiropodist is a runner though.I guess the penalty for trying too soon is just that it hurts a bit more than my usual threshold...

but a chiropodist might be able to find you a protective thingie so you can run

Alex, are you having the whole nail removed or a wedge resection? One's more painful than the other!

a strip down one side.i removed the whole thing myself running flm last year in shoes that were only 1/4 size too big on a hot day.

I lost one at FLM as well, grown back but easily blisters underneath.
A wedge resection should heal pretty quickly. I would rest for a week then see how it feels with some protection on. Avoid getting it wet whilst running and clean the area well afterwards. Obviously want to avoid infection as that would delay things.

Meant to say might need different shoes to allow room for dressing etc.

ok,not sure i'll buy another pair a size too big but the current pair are fairly spacious-3/4 size large-after last flm...but i am itching to get out there,so may well wind up doing something rash!

Just make sure you do rest the first week, that way any swelling will go down quickly. Might need anti inflammatories and/or painkillers. Go easy after that to see how it feels, no long runs!
