Mine is nothing too serious (pulled calf muscle I THINK) but it has come almost straight after 5 weeks of not running due to a knee injury.

The 5 non running weeks were agony (even more so that the injury itself!) and now face with more rest time i dont think i can handle it, especially now the weather is so nice.

I think i may have pulled the calf by overstretching with some of the excercises the physio gave me for the need.

Anyone trying to get through and make the most of forced rest and needing a bit of moral support? I know i am

I have tried running through it which doesnt seem like its going to work running is ok but really painful aftwards and at ballet last night i couldnt finish the class

I could do with some of that moral support. I've been out since Christmas with pf and ITB. The future doesn't look too rosy either. I had a gait analysis done last night and was told that my legs were a biomechanical disaster area. Doesn't do wonders for a girl's confidence!!!!!

Displaced SI Joint m8, no running for 6 to 8 weeks, but getting a new pushbike 2day so I can at least train to some extent.....................

SusanR, can u get urself to a podiatrist to get checked out and maybe get some orthotics, also u could try yoga which i think can be good for correcting posture, stance and ultimately gait

My podiatrist told me my feet were good feet for nothing. I said well i cant do nothing for the rest of my life and she said well just do what makes you happy and we'll deal with the problems as they happen, thanks a lot!

Im gonna try and keep up with my swimming but i find it sooooo boring, i feel that im constantly taking 2 steps forward 3 steps back with my running, just when i start to see improvments im off for another 2 - 3 weeks/month its very disheartening.

Im gonna test the push bike out this weekend too see if i can use it without agrivating the calf

DBSA, did u see a physio about ur calf?
09/05/2003 at 10:44
Ive just finished a course of physio treatment about my knee, on the last appointment i mention i'd been getting some pain in my calf and he did a bit of massage on it but didnt seem to worried, he told me to call up after the first big test for my knee which was ballet last night, knee was fine, calf wasnt, only thing is i am claiming on my health insurance, on the physios advice he said to say i had stepped off a train awkwardly so i dont think he wants to push it too much, i will give him a call tonight, my amature opinion is that ive overstretched it but hey, what do i know

>>'roos visits the ward bringing flowers and special non-fattening chocolates<<

Maybe we should publish a list of physio's and podo's that are able to break the bad news gently. Mine for example used the phrase 'interesting lower limb mechanics' which sounds so much nicer than 'disaster area'!

Good luck with recovery everybody.

funny that, mine said interesting lower limb mechanics as well, is this a forumite disorder???

Our conversation actually went:

DBSA: "So these feet aren't that good for ballet then?"

Physio: "Well I wouldn't say they were that good for anything"

ha! cheeky monkey!

I know i thought im not bloody paying you £30 an hour to sit there and insult my body mechanics!
09/05/2003 at 11:00
'interesting lower limb mechanics' could well be an euphemism for "I can't understand how you can run in the first place and I sure have no clue what to do about it"....

Or "I can't understand how you managed to walk though the front door of my surgery"

I just got the dreaded news from an orthopeadic surgeon that that the niggling pain in my upper thigh(groin) is chronic and he doesn't think that I will run again. I have been resting since January trying to keep it together with cycling and the gym but its like a diet of fishpaste after eating of caviar. What do I miss everything. The sheer child like joy of being able to run across field, getting to the top of a hill with a gang of runners slapping each other on the back. The atmosphere of a race... I'm going to start crying. I am going to try and prove the doctor wrong but in my darker moments I'm really worried that I won't run again. I know it's not a serious lifethreatening illness a disability or a bereavement and perhaps I am being self indulgent but running almost seems like a right its what a human should do. Anyway it's back to R.I.C.E. and lets see if there are any witch doctors in the Yellow Pages. It can't hurt.

francis...it's never self indulgent to be upset by the thought of giving up something you love. Its not just the thing itself it's all the life experiences that go woth it. So have a little wallow, don't feel bad about it and then look up the witch doctors...what've you got to lose...

Francis: it makes me feel bad about wallowing cos i have to miss a month or two, it also makes me realise that sometimes rest is the only option at 21 im still at the stage where i try and run thru my problems first and i am only just starting to realise that im probably doing myself more damamge if i'd have had a break for a few days when i felt the first niggle that would have probably been it but as it is it has got worse and worse.

Sorry if i missed something but what is actually wrong with your groin muscle? you say cronic, is that a condition in itself?
09/05/2003 at 14:52
Francis - wish there was something I could say that could be of any use. You must feel pretty crap - I had two months out last year with achilles problems and it was complete hell. I know what you mean about fishpaste.

For fear of sounding pitiful I will not mention my ligament damage (one in each buttock) brought on by overstretching in a Yoga/Pilates fashion. Oh dear, I seem to have mentioned it - bet it raised a smile though....

No pain in the bum comments please.
