KNEED TO KNOW!!!!

I have been training for a run (with weight)

I have made sure not to do too much or increase too quickly and everything has gone fine - til this week!!

I did what I classed as my last training run before the event in 2 wks and got around fine but that evening my knee started to ache like mad (or just below it to be precise)

I have a feeling this might be patella tendonitis (although i've been told this doesn't just suddenly occur)

QUESTION - if my event is in 2 wks do I rest completely til then or can I possibly risk a week off then try a couple of 'warm up' sessions in the week running up to the event??? the event is 10 miles

To clarify - did you mean you were running with ankle weights or you're overweight?

How long have you been running, how frequently and how far etc.?

sorry

been running with a back pack ( myself running for 4 yrs)

never run more than 3 times  a week as i'm a postie by day...

never more than once a week with the backpack - increasing wt gradually over last 3 months

total mileage for the week about 24 miles ( 1x6, 1x8, 1x10?)

I have had a similar problem, with a pain below my knee cap and on the outside of my knee, fearing the worst I booked in with a physio and was ingformed it was due to a problem with tight IT Band and after a weeks rest and a little light cardio I was fine to get back to running. If you have an event in a couple of weeks thenits well worth £30 to go and get it checked out though!

 Good luck with the event!

Could it be that your shoes are on the way out?
