Quick summary.

Running since April, couple of 10ks, next goal half mara, longest run to date 9 miles.

Last month or so after every run I'm getting pain behind my left hip. Is usually fine during running but sore after, especially sore when I stand up after sitting for any length of time. I look a bit elderly getting in and out of seats.

Got sold the wrong shoes which the shop have now acknowledged and replaced. But was running on a neutral shoe for 3 months when I needed a stability shoe. Don't know if it's related to the pain. Took a week off running 2 weeks ago when on holiday hoping hip would be better but no luck - it kicked in straight away after first run and in fact hurt for the first time ever during the run.

Took another week off hoping the combination of rest and the correct shoes would help. Did a short 3 miles yesterday as a tester - hip the same. And now the right one is starting to twinge.

Any ideas what it might be? Am of normal weight but quite wide hipped.

I think it's going to be difficult for anyone to give you a diagnosis on this forum, but there's certainly alot you can do to try and help yourself that you haven't mentioned.

Specifically do you warm up correctly? Do you stretch after a run? Have you tried icing? Strengthening exercises? Anti inflamatories? Massage? It would also be beneficial for you to read up on correct running technique.

Injuries can be caused by over use, poor technique, poor flexibility or muscle weakness/imbalance. There are lots of articles on this website and the internet on the above activities to help you along.

Here's a good stretching guide to start:

If your problems continue it might well pay to visit the doctor/physio.
