I've just been advised to get some custom made, was wondering what the cost should be or at least a guide.  I know its going to be different depending on what part of the country your in but pretty sure I'm being ripped off or I need to move/change jobs.

My quote £400.00

Sounds like a lot.

I got mine 3 years ago but they were about £114

About £120 in february this year and were a total waste of time, ended up getting orthaheel shock absorbers and they seem to have done the job,

I suppose I should have said that I got mine from BUPA Wellness Centres.

I'm not a member of BUPA but the consultation was about £35 and I think the follow-up fitting was free.

Free.......  I got my doctor to refer me to our local mobility centre where the podiatrist worked part time NHS and part time private (I knew where he worked private, so knew he was good)  He sorted me out with orthotics and also refered me to a NHS physio for exercies to help as well, and now I am fine (touch wood).

Whole process took about 2/3 months

Mine cost about £300 - I think it was around £100 for the initial consultation/fitting and £200 for having them made. Then I got a second pair so another £200! Plus I have to get the ones I run in refurbished every 6-9 months and that's another £25. But they seem to work....

I'm a serious overpronator apparently and was wondering whether to get orthotics made instead of having to wear motion control shoes. Does anyone know if this would be a viable alternative?

You'll need to ask your pod Richard as opinion varies.

I have always been told to use mine in stability shoes but I do put them in neutrals for shorter distances.

Thanks - It just seems I am a bit limited to shoes at the moment everyone recommends Brooks Beasts so thought if I had orthotics I would have more choice.

How long do orthotics last, are they like shoes and need replacing on a regular interval?

Mine need "renovating" annually - in other words  they replace the plush on the top.

Mine are well overdue

I am told that your feet (and therefore your "orthotic needs" ) change over the years but mine never have. At least not yet.

Mine were about £100 plus £50 for the consultation from the excellent White Rose Clinic in York. They were made for me on the spot following a digital analysis of my feet as i walked over a pressure sensitive pad. They have cured my plantar fasciitis and i love them for that!
