Physio or new trainers?

Help, my whole leg seems to be shot now. Initially, it was tight calf muscles, then ankle pain, moved on to a pulled thigh muscle, plumping for Achilles problems recently. Always on the same leg, it's been going on for a few months now. I rest, ice it, seems to be ok only to go again when I step up the training.

I would like to see a physio? But just realized that I don't feel much support in my trainers any more. Worked out my mileage and it's around the 500 mile mark, ok, a bit more. Really need a new pair - now that's the problem - new trainers versus physio. Got a pair of trail shoes, so could keep to off road for a while.

How much does a physio cost? I rang one and was told £48, is that about right(seemed on the high side?) Do you think the trainers are more of a priority? Can you self treat? Or am I only putting off the inevitable? Just very worried about the cost......money, money, money

a new pair of trainers is likely to cost more than a physio consult- I just paid £40 for one (well £80 as I had 2 sessions)

500 miles is a lot from a pair of shoes so they need replacing anyway - so go with that as first call as it's priority. IF you still get the niggles, you know it's not the shoes so then call the physio.

I'm no expert but if I was in pain I would tend towards seeing someone who knows what they're talking about as quickly as possible.

Agree with fat budha that you likely need new trainers anyway...but your new trainers aren't going to tell you how to rehabilitate your knackered leg.

Good luck!

Thanks guys, you're both right........had a good look at trainers, definitely worn. will wander off to my running shop, they're top notch in there. Friends have recommended a physio, that's a wee bit cheaper, and think he's good, more importantly.
But the reality check is that this has gone on too long and needs to be sorted out before the autumn season kicks off or it gets to the point I have to stop running, (shudders with horror!) Was trying to talk myself into thinking this might go away.

...walks off clutching trainers, shaking head....new trainers, physio (hope it's no more than one session, gulp), realised trail shoes haven't been changed for far too long, too. Kerching! Blimey, and I thought I was low maintenance.
