Prevent Repeat calf strains

During training for the Edinburgh Marathon i suffered repeat calf strains, on both legs, is there any exercises or advice i can get to prevent this happening again in future training?

In short, massage to get rid of any scar tissue, stretching, strengthening with heel raises and not building up distance / speed too quickly were my saviour. I had the same problem over a couple of years.
