Hi, I've just got in through the ballot and this will be my first time running a marathon and doing running other than pre season through football! My question is when I do any weight workout I take a protein shake with either milk or water straight after training.Do any of you take protein shakes or what do you have straight after your runs? Thanks in advance.

Plain milk for me too

You could always just have your dinner.  Real food is usually the best thing.

Thanks for all the replies.I try to run before my dinner but sometimes it's not possible and need to fuel the body before bed.

Chocolate milk for me - Tesco 2 for £2.  Used to use For Goodness Shakes - very nice especially vanilla but got a bit expensive, I think the ratio should be 3 to 1 carbs to protein.

Never have protein shakes and hate milk, but I do cope with alpro soya chocolate milk  occasionally and also have coconut milk and also coconut water (as long as it's cold).

Chcolate milk here as well, after long runs.

2 for £2? How many calories are there in one bottle? 1000 kcals?

My entire days food today came to £1.73, which I thought was rather extravagant, as most days I eat for less than £1.

How on earth do you manage that? I'd love to see an average weekly shopping list and/or menu plan. Even if I ate nothing but Asda smart price white rice for every meal I doubt I could do it for ??1 per day...

Water.

Water and salt.

Water salt and sugar.

Milk

Depends on distance run, pace, weather, what is aching. Milk for aching legs, Salt to replace that loss through sweating and stop any lightheadness. The sugar is for taste.

Usually water with a rehydration tablet (High 5 Zero), but occasionally i'll make up a milk and banana smoothie.

Pint of milk, 1 banana, ice cubes, vanilla essence, pinch of salt, some brown sugar and sometimes a big slug of baileys. Mix all together in a hand blender. Lovely.
