Stomach bug after 24 miler

Body shock?

I just wondered if anyone else had experienced this...

I did a 24 miler on Sunday - felt great at the end - really strong and progressed the last 5 miles. Refuelled according to appetite as usual from long runs...then did a 5 hour train journey to get home a bit later.

Anyway since yesterday morning I've had what seems to be a stomach bug - except for the fact I cant place it to a food if that makes sense. I'm feeling quite drained from it, I cant seem to get any food to stay inside me for long, but no sickness either or stomach cramps.

Not much muscle ache or anything else from the run itself but I just wondered if the symptoms could be from the body having a kind of 'shock'?

I've run a marathon before, but this is only the second time I have done 24 miles including that (although my usual long runs have been around 20-22 miles for the last 10 weeks)...and the pace was much quicker than my marathon but in line with my other long run paces (around 9:20 mins/mile).

Any ideas or epxeriences similar? I'm taking another day off today as I dont have the energy to run, but I'd like to get back on track tomorrow and have a 22 miler or so planned for Sunday.

Theres a lot of nasty viruses going round - several work colleagues have had similar symptoms to yours ? Isnt that more likely ?

Possible - but I dont seem to be ill otherwise if that makes sense...it was just an idle wondering tbh

If you dont feel ill and have no other symptoms I would put it down to overdoing it a tad (as far as your body being bounced around for 24 miles)

My OH gets a dodgy stomach when he has pushed himself.  Only normally lasts 24hrs and then he's fine.

I've had dodgy stomach a couple of times after races before wasn't sure if it was a coincidence or not
