My brother and I have done a couple of long runs/marathons now and on all occassions one of us has hit the "wall" and had to slow up. Does anyone have any advice on how to combat this during a run and the best way of training to avoid it in the first place?

suck jelly beans during the first few miles. they contain glutamine and enough sugary stuff to keep you going that little bit longer

Agreed! I do marathons and long distance triathlons, a lot of people swear by jelly beans, me too. The other things are to be sure to hydrate properly, and, although it sounds elementary, put in the long runs in training. Good luck.
