I had 3 week rest after my half in december and since training again ihave got tight left calf. My next race is kilomarathon on 14th march so i havent got time to rest. I always warm up and cool down including pushing against a wall to stretch my calfs. I have only got up to 5 and half miles due to this problem and im aiming to do my long run half term in feb. Any advice is welcome thanks.

Try some different stretches and keep at it, maybe try the one mentioned recently where you twist when facing the wall. That might help.

It was in the mag recently, I can't remember which issue though. Basically you do the same stretch as before with both hands on the wall and one foot forward one foot back, then lift off the front foot and twist to either side to stretch the calf out.

I suffer from the same problem and am trying to train for VLM! My physio recommended the stretches normlly used for tight achilles where you stand on a step and raise yourself up on balls of the feet and then lower the heel below the level of the step. Also you do the same thing with your knees bent which really stretches your calf. I was told to do 15 on each side after my run. I sometimes do it when I've not been running if it feels very tight, but you have to be careful not to overstretch.

Also when you do the pushing against the wall one you could trying bringing the back foot in line with front foot and bend knees while you stretch. Also do it again bringing back foot across to other side slightly and bend knees. Both apparently stretch different muscles in calf. These really work for me! Hope it sorts itself out for you

I asked a  guy at the gym today and he said the same. Do  5 min warm up then use side of the tread mill to stretch calf. It does thoughe feel a lot better today. Going to attepmt 8m on wed, so have to see. Good luck with vlm i hope get in eventually through the ballot system. Running life cant be injury free.
