I had sclerotherapy (foam injections) on my long saphenous vein nearly 3 weeks ago. I was told to start exercising as soon as I felt able to and was cautioned that while cycling should be okay, running might hurt because of the impact so to be careful.I started cycling a week after with the big compression bandages still on and was fine. I also managed a 3 mile run/walk the day the bandages came off. Since, I’ve managed more cycling. I’ve been wearing a compression stocking during the day as instructed as my job involves sitting down a lot.On Tuesday I ran 4 miles without the compression stocking on and felt good – no pain. But in the middle of the night I woke with excruciating pain around the old vein. It calmed down enough to let me turbo last night but today I woke again to a very sharp localised pain with pain radiating from it and a large swollen bruise. Unlike the other day the pain hasn’t worn off despite taking ibuprofen and paracetamol. I’m worried I’ve ruptured a vein in the same area. I called the consultant and was told that unless it’s hot and inflamed (i.e. infected) I should be alright. I can’t help but think I’ve done something quite major. Any docs or nurses out there who can anyone offer any advice or help?
