Weight maintenance problems.

I have been running properly since christmas (3-5 days a week) at which point i weighed 11st 6lbs with  11.2% body fat. I now weigh 10st 7lbs with a 10.7% body fat.Usually i would think this is great but its not fat i have lost its majority muscle weight and being 5'11" i look really skinny.

I have tried eating loads of carbs, protien and vegetables but the weight is still dropping. I know i have a fast metabolism because i have never been over weight and putting muscle weight on whilst weight training was impossible. I was wondering if anyone could help me with any ideas on how to keeping the muscle weight on.

Hubby has similar problems.  I couldn't tell you his statistics, but I do know that he looks almost anorexic when he trains hard.

Do you do any weight training at the moment?  It doesn't have to be heavy stuff, but doing a session down the gym once a week, or something like Body Pump is a great way of building or maintaining muscle.  You say that you can't put on muscle, but if you do something you will at least look toned rather than skinny.

The rest is just down to eating.  Eat often and not just at meal times.  Yes, you need your healthy balance to get your vitamins and minerals, but once you have your daily quota of healthy stuff then it is OK to fill up on anything else you want.  Hubby nibbles on bread a lot, or handfulls of dried fruit and nuts, or even cheese.  Take energy drinks before, during or after your runs and maybe have something like an energy bar or a cereal bar as soon as you finish your run.  When Hubby starts getting excessively skinny I make muffins for him.  Portable food is great because you can eat it anywhere and just grab and go.  Hubby often has a muffin in the car when I'm driving him to work.

I hope you can take some ideas away from this.

I weight lift and row twice week. When i was 11st 6lbs i was competing in powerlifting and the reason i was successful is because i got stronger but barely put weight on. I changed to running due to a shoulder injury and now the weight is disappearing. It took me 2 years to put 6lbs on as my usual weight when not training is 11st.

Thanks for the advice i'll give the eating more often thing a try, i usually eat 4 meals a day so i will up it if i can.  I hope this works although being skinny might make me run faster !
