Wet weather and injuries:

does it hurt more?

I had recently a little bout of shin splints, which was sorted soon enough, and I was back to running my (very low) usual weekly mileage without too much trouble

I had a scheduled rest on Thursday, leg felt fine.

I had another day off on Friday, leg felt significantly worse: stiff, heavy and as if the medial tibial stress syndrome is rearing its ugly little head again. Similar on Saturday, but things *improved* after a run. This is not textbook MTSS behaviour, as far as I know. I went for a run today and the leg is fine again...

I can only think that the wet weather made the muscles feel unhappy.

So out of sheer curiosity, who else experiences this? I also used to predict rain more accurately than the Met-office based on an old shoulder injury, but that finally has gone after 12 years because I did not feel a thing this week!

never heard of wet weather causing shin splints.

how was your first bout of shin splints sorted? I know of folks who are plagued by shin splints which unfortunately can keep re-occuring.

have you been to a physio?

No, I am not talking about the weather *causing* the shin splints, just that the pain seemed to return now in a previous injury, possibly indicating the muscle has not completely recovered and that the wet atmosphere is somehow influencing the tissue. As I said, I used to have it with my shoulder so I seem to be sensitive to this. Sorry, my post was perhaps not clear on this point. I am just wondering if I am the only freak out there :-)

I got mtss because I was given the wrong shoes in the shop, that has all been sorted now. It was diagnosed by the in-store physio (so I learned the correct name), who also picked new shoes for me. They def. make a difference, because what I felt on Friday/Saturday is much weaker than with the old shoes. I wouldn't have gone running two days in a row with those ones! Oh, and I am doing stretches and strengthening exercises etc, thanks for your concern.
