Places do not 'come available' when someone defers.  FLM, like most race organisers, assume that a certain percentage of people will not run each year through illness/injury and so accept more people than the course can actually cope with.  And it has to be remembered that each year, there are probably about the same number of people on guaranteed (deferred) places as there are people dropping out.

If you have not got in now through the ballot and you don't go down the Golden Bond route, unless you run a sub 2.45 marathon or sub 75 minute half marathon between now and January 2009, you aren't doing FLM.

I wonder now if there should be rule to enable more first timers to race. Im in this year which is great but didnt get in for 4 years and someone I know has managed to get in every year for about 6 years.. that doesnt really seem fair for the amount of people that get rejected each year. I cant wait to do it and after i do it i may want to do it again but I cant help feel for those people who get rejected time and time again.

I have been trying all day to get through to the London marathon phone line, all day, on the phone, it must have cost a fortune waiting in their queing system, only to get cut off after about 10 minutes waiting, I then had to go through it all again! you get the picture, finally got to speak to someone who told me that I did not get in and he did not know why I had not recieved a magazine, "maybe it was late in the post"  as you can guess I was really impressed with that answer, still at least now I know, glum feeling inside, and a long wait to find out about 2010, still those running this year enjoy your day and train well.

Hi all - this is my first post even though I've be using the site for a few years.

I've just been accepted into the 09 LM (5th time lucky!), but am currently recovering from a series of injuries, so I think I've only about a 50% chance of doing it. I'm intending to decide one way or the other in the new year,

Does anyone therefore know what I need to do - if accept immediately can I defer later? Or should I wait and not reply until I know whether I can do it or not? The instructions in the magazine don't seem to explain this.

 Many thanks!

My first post on this thread. I've still heard nothing - I applied in the second 'tranche' of the ballot and bequeathed my entry fee so it was taken at the time. Should I be panicking? Has anyone else still not heard either way? It's my first attempt so I'm not sure what to expect.

Rejected by email today. Oh well Connemara and Cork or Edinburgh for me.

Hi Ab1889,

I had to roll my 2008 slot over it was nice and easy. When you were accepted you would have received a slip of paper with your details on, there is a box on there that you ned to tick and post beack to them if you want to pull out. Last year you could pull out right up to the day. If you do need to pull ouyt though make sure you post it back recorded delivery and then you can check they have it. I then received a letter not that long ago asking me for a cheque for the 2009 entry fee to ensure my place is accepted, there is a time limit on this reply so again recorded delivery is the best way..

I wouldnt make your mind up yet, I'd wait for as long as you need

 Hope that helps

Great - many thanks for confirming that. I won't send the form back for the time being then and will also keep everthing crossed! Good luck with your training.

Got my rejection mag last week, so haven't been hanging around here since then.  However, I just phoned the charity that I applied for a GB place with, and they've offered me a place.

Looks like I'm doing London!!!!

Damn, I'm a bit scared now....

Sazza, congrats.

 Which charity?
