my 'lovely' timex ironman says i did 29.75 miles!last year it said 26.8 which i was prepared to forgive.thank goodness i was taking lap times from the official mile markers or i might have been confused....
or perhaps i was confused and ran the last three miles twice by mistake-could account for a disappointing result;-)
anyone else get funny readings-obviously it did lose the satellites in the tunnels, but,a they were relatively straight and b they haven't changed from last year....
any thoughts?

When a course is measured the offical measurer takes the shortes posible route at all times - shaving every corner as tight as it can be done etc

This will acount for some of the difference - even on our 10miler this added 0.5miles to the course

the more technical the cource ....

26.87 miles on my Forerunner.

Alex, you obviously found yourself running around more knee lenghth cotton short and tennis shoe clad 'runners' than I did.

My Forerunner made it 26.91 also...I found that for the first 6 miles or so when it was crowded and I couldn't follow the blue line, I was running further than the 1 mile...after seeing this, I must confess I became a bit of a "Blue Line Hogger"...hope no one noticed.

My F.R. 26.9 - I think I ran the first half in zig-zags. Started with the wombles so had a lot of overtaking to do.

You have to stringently (although practically impossible) follow the blue lines to run the 26.2 miles, as that is the measured course.
If you don't follow the blue lines, then you run further than 26.2 miles.

lurking on this thread as I didn't take my GPS with me....but there does seem to be a pattern of the London Marathon being effectively a 26.9 mile run
which would make a bit of a difference in people estimating their finish times.. ie 3.45 becomes 3.50 etc etc

My GPS gave 27.5 miles, which seemed about right giving the amount of weaving I had to.
