I'm just coming back after 3 weeks off (dodgy knee). I went to see a proper sports physio who diagnosed the problem and gave me specific stretches to do to help ease it. I've got to do the stretches 5 times a day, now run a bit funny (and have the huge blister to prove it) and my knee hurts, but he got me running again, so my advice is to find proper medical help - your running shop should be able to recommend someone.

Good luck with it, hope you make it for the 13th

I so much feel for you.... Do seek medical/physio advice. Remember you still have 2months which is enough if you get proper 'help'. Good luck.....

I know how frustrated you feel Kim, I've had two weeks off running due to a lower leg injury (not even sure what it is yet, seeing the physio next week). I've been going to the gym as often as I can to keep my fitness level up, I've raised a fair amount for my charities and booked flights and hotels and would be gutted if I had to pull out at this stage.
However I'm fairly confident that I can still do it providing I build up again slowly.
Take it easy and good luck!

i totally understand how you feel, kim. i just got back after 2 weeks off, too. i saw a physio after trying to ice/heat/stretch/massage/suck-it-up, and he had me back out there in about 3 days. (yes, he has my vote for man of the year.) i would DEFINITELY recommend seeing a physio... and if he can get you sorted, you should still be able to compete. worst case scenario, you don't break the track record at london, right? it will be a great day anyway.

Kim

Sounds similar to a problem I had (but hope not...)

I picked up an achiles problem in Aug'01 (shortly after taking up running !). I stupidly carried on running for a further 8 months, even though it became increasing painful. Saw lots of expensive specialists (be careful !) who all diagnosed scar tissue probs following a tear - but failed to resolve. 2 told me to give up running. I had to pull out of FLM'02 and roll over my entry

A running friend then recommended another sports physio (with misc famous clients I learnt later) who sorted it quite quickly - very, very, painful though (brought tears to my eyes !!!)

He broke-up the tissue using 'deep massage' techniques - basically squeezing, stretching, pinching it where it hurt and was swollen most - plus ultrasound, lots of special stretches etc. 4 weeks of this..

Within days of the first session though things started to improve. I was also told to re-build my running slowly, cut a 'v' shape in the heel tab of my shoes (the cause of the prob possibly - quite high up on the Grid Hurricanes I was wearing then) and massage the thing myself (I used a smooth, flat, pebble + oil !)

In short - it can be fixed, but make sure you see someone who knows about running injuries. Best of luck - think positive !!
