If anybody is looking to transfer their London marathon place, I am in desperate need of one. Please contact me at c.a.w.stanfield@gmail.com

Best wishes

Why would they want to ? People can defer places till next year if they have to.

Christopher - why are you in desperate need if one?

Find a better marathon.

Out of interest, how will you register without the ID of the holder. Bent Mickey or Ronnie the Fence down my way can knock you up a passport or driving licence at reasonable rates.

Desperate? How desperate?

I'm sure you are sunshine, but I'm not sure the public really want to know.

These are my favourite threads. 'I'd like to run London. Give me your place'

I think that Mo only running half of it is a stupid idea... But maybe he and Christopher could do it together as a relay... Or something.

He wants to run a Marathoon?  What is this?

Just run 13.1 - 26.2 seeing as Mo isn't doing it!

DF3 -- I totally agree... It's almost farcical.

Aha! He wants to get a feel for the ??250,000 eh
18/02/2013 at 08:20
There's no one on this forum who wouldn't take ??250000 for doing half of the VLM, so fair play to Mo for managing to strike the deal.

At this point it's hard (for an idiot like me) to see how his appearance will generate money. Oh, for sure I'd take ??250,000 for running half of it but I wouldn't come up with some wanky excuse to try and cover the fact that I was obviously just doing it for the money.

Maybe Christopher is Mo's agent. He struck the £250k deal, but now realises he needs to get Mo a place to cash in on the deal. I would be desperate under the circumstances, so fair play to the OP.

The bigger the stars on the front line, the bigger the race, the more you can charge for TV rights, the more you can sell charity places for, the more advertisers will pay etc. etc.

Mo's doing well to get this much though and good luck to him - to put it in context Radcliffe and Gebrselassie got $400 000 last time they ran New York

Rafiki -- I get what you're saying in respect of the fact that he'll be running the whole thing next year... But I find it harder to see how it'll make more money for this year, what with it being so close now... I'd have thought that TV and advertising deals were done way in advance. Obviously if VLM want to pay it and Mo wants to pocket it then that's a matter for them but I personally think it's a bit naff (that he'll only be running half of it).

Any luck finding a place yet Christopher?

I'm sure Virgin may well be thinking slightly further ahead than this year. Plus is there any other big names running this year ???? Got to keep the sponsors happy.

And I know its unlike you david to take this to extreme, but I doubt the presence of any big stars on the front line would be sufficient to double the charity entery fee! And I never implied they would, I merely point out to Taxi Driver why a big name can generate money. And if Virgin want to keep London in the top 5 marathons in the world, they have to keep the big names.

As for charities pricing themselves out - there's been a handful of places offered here, but most charity places sell out, and even have waiting lists, so they haven't priced themselves out yet.

And why should Mo discuss his finances in public?

How did this go from some bloke who doesn't know the system asking for a place to slagging off a national hero who happens to be a professional athlete wanting to take advantage of his position after years of sacrifice and hard work?

The day will offer the general public far more interest if Mo is there whether he finishes or not.
