Becs - I would of thought spin classes should be ok for the knee, as it stays in relatively the same position, and no impact. But circuits normally incls. lots of changes in direction, which maybe not ideal for your knee.

DK - There's a few speedsters from down your way on this thread, and a few even speedier drinkers.

DD forgot to say congrats on the bling and consistent podiuming.

Simon, yes maybe not the circuits immediately but in the longer term I think they might help build up the type of strength that I lack and so help prevent future problems.

Minni - I was just looking thru some  other threads from last year, and noticed it had our old christmas forum names still on it. Are we going to do it again this year, and when shud we do it, is now too earlier.

Becs - yes, spinning is a great way to keep fit if out of running. I can never figure how people fit training into a lunch hour.  By the time you change and leave time for a shower etc afterwards there must only be about 30 minutes to train. 

Simon - yes but I think its a bit soon to do it now.  Maybe 1st December?

Odd morning for me this morning.  I went to Pilates from 9 - 10 then met three others for a run.  My schedule said 12 but I planned to do a 14m loop with them during their 16m run.  And I was more than prepared to do the full 16.  But I still have my cold, which on its own would have been ok, and I had an achy hip, which again on its own would have been ok but the two together were making it miserable.  Bloody annoying because it was a fantastic morning for running.  I decided to phone Mr Minni and ask him to pick me up at 12 miles.  I then stepped up the pace for the last mile to feel as if I'd put some effort in and ran it at about 7:50 and felt a million times better (just like Thursday night).  I then wished I hadn't phoned him!

No running tomorrow - full day of rugby.  Off to watch Master Minni play in a tournament in Edinburgh then we're all off to Murrayfield to watch the All Blacks V Scotland.

Simon of course now is too early. I am a traditionalist/Scrooge when it comes to Christmas, I think decorations should go up on Christmas Eve...

So my calf is playing silly buggers again. I'm strengthening, rolling, stretching etc, but it's taking so bloody long. I had a great run on Thursday when I felt like I was properly running again, and now back to frustration and pain. I think I need to bite the bullet and sign up to a gym as swimming and walking isn't giving me the aerobic fitness (or burning off the booze calories) I need from cross training.

There will be no more pre race drinking until the outlaw Mr Z and I'll limit it to 4 or 5 pints next year.

And to whoever said about racing in a divers suit, yes its double ironman, but it ain't going to be pretty . Dreaming of sub 30 hours

Oompa, hope the calf is better. Do you do any S&C / strength training? Fingers crossed but seems to be keeping me injury free.

2old, sorry, checked, the course tomorrow is 5.5 miles, it's on one of the best 5k courses and 2 laps, but they cut it short. Go figure.

DK - I forgot to ask, IM cut off is normally 17hrs, do you get a bit extra for the double, or is it just 34hrs .

Minni- I'm back to my normal mileage this week with 20m planned for tomorrow. I understand that the plan is to have a shorter taper this time round of around 10 days. Moz said there's no reason why I shouldn't run just as well in San Sebastian but I must say I am a bit unsure about how this starting and stopping would've affected me. I guess I just have to wait and see. One thing is for sure- my head will be in a much better place this time round.
Had a reasonably good time in NY but I must say I'm glad to be home. Between getting up at stupid a clock every day to get my runs in and worrying about Mr B being annoyed it was all a bit of a struggle.
Still no word from NY Runners about how they are planning to handle this thing. Disgraceful.

Yes I am doing a double HM - I'm just taking a 6-week break between them! But no, my race isn't for 2 weeks yet. Only running I'll be doing tomorrow will be on a football pitch!
DD, congrats on yet more silverware.
Welcome DK, sounds like 3:30 is well within your capabilities.

Gazelle, re: my HM breathing pattern. Basically I split the race into 4 sections. First 3 miles I run to a 6-count (3 strides in, 3 out), the next 3 miles to a 5-count (2 in, 3 out), miles 6-9 I alternate between 5 and 4 (2 in, 2 out, 2 in, 3 out) then switch to a straight 4 count for the last 4 miles. See I told you it was boring! But seems to work and also gives me a good idea how things are going, ie if I can comfortably stay on a 5 count beyond 6 miles I know I'm doing ok and can up the pace a bit.
