minkin, the Windsor course isn't too bad-though i'm not an expert.last year i did it in 2.17(coincidentally the same day that paula ran 2.17 in chicago!)was my first race ever,it has a nasty hill up at around 9 miles otherwise i'd call it undulating.certainly no worse that the imber half i did in march in 1.57.just hope they have water at the last station this year..see you there...

Thanks folks - they have apparently changed the course a bit from last year so it may not be quite as testing as last year. It was a hot day too by all accounts so may not have helped with PB attempts.

For me whatever time I get will be a PB so I'm just concerned to finish without doing myself a total injustice.

Yeah, go on then, I've been inspired by receiving my Marathon News. I'd be well pleased with 3.59.59! (4.40 in 2002 with rubbish training due to a variety of problems!)
Will be doing Cardiff half on the same day as Windsor.

good luck with that one.still early days for london...

I'm up for it had a bad 2002, but training since then has been going well and looking for a good Dublin result, managing 8.5 min miles in training confortably, so allow for increased fitness but a bit of fade towards the end should be there or there abouts.

Also hoping to improve my spelling between now and then.

Hello Alex, I'll join too, I'm damned if I can't get under 4 hours next time, having trained for 3.40 last time.

The jury's still out on an autumn marathon first.

I won't necessarily be thinking about the training until Dec, just keep up longer runs and have the club coach make me do hill reps.

Good luck with all your training, I'm sure we can get there!

Also good luck with no 4 baby Alex.

thanks laura-yes i was trying to go sub 4 children but...
i seem to remember some unfinished discussions from flm 2003 threads re boarding schools-my bank manager is coming round to your way of thinking!!

did the classic thing this week of looking up the half marathon programme(optimistically looking at the 1.45 rather than the 2) in rw and thinking-ha,a 10 mile long run,i think i'll do 15.which i did,on monday night, but i was then so stiff and achy in the achilles area that i was nowhere to be seen for tuesday speedwork and the wednesday brisk 7 miler...
just about lurched around 6 miles at lunchtime but it wasn't pretty

off to go and write out 100 lines,i must not try to do all the necessary long slow distance running in one outing...and this is supposed to be week 3 out of 12 leading up to a half, not week 15 of 20 leading up to a marathon...duh.

Count me in for sub4. I've just filled my form in giving 3:50 as my target. I did 4:14ish this year but that was after not running at all from mid Nov to Jan 6th due to torn calf. If I can train injury free and lose a bit of this blubber I'll get sub 4

IM in for sub 4 hours.Doing bristol half soon looking for 1hr 30 in that one.Dont really know about 26 miles ive only been running since march this year but ive got the bug and i do 12.5 every sunday usually in about 1hr 30 to 35.But whats the chances of getting into london?i want it badly.

it will be interesting to see if i can recreate the magic of 3.58 from 4 years earlier
06/08/2003 at 17:00
Im up for this alex. I think 9 min miles are good for me.
06/08/2003 at 17:59
jason,if you really want it that badly, and why shouldn't you, then contact your favourite decent sized charity and get a place that way-you will have toi guarantee an amount of sponsorship..but,as its your first i expect all your astonished friends will pony up no trouble....mind you i think you'll be well sub 4 if you are 1.30 for the half...
i am working on trying to get to 8 24 min miles(=1.50) for the windsor half at the mo,but i think i've damaged my calf/shin so it could be a non running weeks hols in cornwall next week.mrs p wil be happy at least.other than that i think it could be there(pb is 1.57 from imber in march),not getting hopes up too much in this weather...
