Sorry Imelda can't help you with the computer thingy and the Garmin 201 as I haven't tried it myself yet. Maybe you could ask someone else on the Gear forum?

Hi Dawn, BTing is base training, there is a very long thread about this on training, the first few pages of that thread explains it better than I ever could.

I take it this will be your first marathon Dawn, have you run other distances in races?

thanks everyone for your good wishes re:x-country race.

Jane - well done on your good time today.

Imelda - sorry can't help either. I'd like a Garmin, but haven't got one yet.

Another fine day for a run nice and dry and cool.

just over 6 miles this morning a bit later than usual due to being out til after midnight last night, sadly no drinking as it was my turn to drive home.

I've just done 4 miles - getting slower all the time!! My quad is still sore, so I may rest for a week and start again next weekend. :((

debbo sorry to hear your quad is giving you problems, do you think its related to your ITBS problem from before?

No Jane, I think it is unrelated (probably just as well). I don't know what it is - maybe too many miles too quickly! I did 3 weeks of 6 days running, 30-35 mpw. Maybe it was too much. I'll rest now I think!

hope you are alot better soon debbo and it probably is wise to rest a few days rather than ignore a niggle.

jane thanks for the message - will check out thread on base training. i have done a few half-marathons and this will be my first marathon. all seems very daunting at this stage but encouraging to hear there will be others slow but determined
all the best

Hippo did you do anything to your thigh, or did it just get better? I am hoping mine will do that if I cut back the miles and do some swimming or cycling as well to prevent any more excess pounds!

hi debbo
It just got better

was a bit worried as I started runnung oddly and getting secondary knee niggles

Hi, 5 miles in just under 55 mins, so could say a MP run. Thank god skin is waterproof as everything I was wearing was very, very wet when I had finished, thankfully not too cold and windy.

Blooming heck Jane, do you never rest? :-)

Speed for me to day on Surrey County track in Sutton.

Had a rest from running yesterday but washed the car and made a start on the new allotment so not exactly lounging on the sofa.

JJ my rest day this week will be on Saturday and thats only because I have a half marathon on Sunday. The rest of this week will be very easy or steady sessions of about 4-5 miles and a couple of gym sessions.
15/11/2004 at 16:10
Thursdays and Sundays for me on this schedule.

Speed session today was

1 mile jog 141 bpm
1 mile strides ( blooming hard!! got up to 6:30 mm )
4 x 200m with 200m recoveries 161 bpm ( had big problems keeping pace and HR even)
1 mile jog 141 bpm

I really didn't want to do the last mile jog but just thought of it as the last mile of a marathon which I will have to run even if I'm shattered. I did it :-)

Got a bit down hearted on the run as I can't imagine keeping my pace up over 26 miles, but I pulled my self together and told my self I can only do my best and keep up the training.
15/11/2004 at 17:29
Sounds like a fairly hard session JJ., what pace did you run for the 200m?

With regard to keeping the pace up over 26 miles I think we all have plenty of time to practise and get that right.

Jane - what half are you doing this weekend?

Josie - sounds like a good session. Remember you won't have done all those strides and sprints during the marathon!
15/11/2004 at 18:17
The splits were

1 7:00 mm
2 7:19 mm
3 7:56 mm
4 8:30 mm

HR was about 5 bpm above what I wanted for the first 3 tho.

It was hard but not exhausting. I like running fast :-)
