Oh My Friskney Goodness!

Little half marathon through the cabbage fields near Boston; very flat (20 feet incline over the whole race!).


That's my 2nd best EVER!!!!!!

just been tucking into a little Maltesers egg. 820 calories the whole lot, and Garmin said I burnt 1400. Hmmm! Best not though!

Congrats Jim another PB well done.

I ran 17 on Sunday setting out at 6am with my bro and son in law, my bro ran 13 with usthe longest mileage ever for him in two hours and my sil and I carried on for another 4 and staggered home in 2.40 feelng stiff today but I had no gels and only one bottle of water so a bit under nourished really but made it so mileage ramping up with only six weeks to go.I had spent Friday building a 12 x 6 bikeshed so was stff in all sorts of places from doing that too.........well done guys not long now for you London marathoners.

Yes I am becoming an old man as my daughter told me with a shed and my OH made me the curtains too!!

Mark, most of my long runs recently have been without water at all (including a 17 and a 13 in last week's warmth!). I feel now that I don't need water - or gels or whatever - more often than every 10 miles or so and my body is getting used to running well with a slight dehydration level! Just means that for the marathon I should be able to concentrate on just running and take some lucozade in the second half, rather than worry about drinking every 20 minutes!

I haven't taken water on any of my runs so far this year. I will if the weather gets warmer of course.

Interesting that all the advice is drink this, eat that, taper that long but perhaps we need to just focus on what our bodies are telling us and listen to them rather than follow rule...... etc. Soon be London Redhead are you just running it this year or knitting too! Sorry I think I might have asked you that already!!!

Quite agree mcs. In my first marathon I listened to everyone telling me I needed loads of sports drinks and gels and I felt awash during the race. I haven't made that mistake again

No knitting, I'm trying to beat my pb of 4:50:55 which I set in VLM 2006 and then in the other 4 marathons I'm trying to beat the times I did when I was in my 50th year (but without the ultras!). No pressure at all

Ooooh, how exciting. I hope your mum's busy knitting you blankets and cushion covers etc

I'm debating what sort of run to do today. It will undoubtedly involve getting wet so perhaps not across the fields. I think a hilly 5.5 miles should hit the spot.

Did an eight miler last night in driving rain and then hail, it pebble dashed my head, quite painful. Managed to average 8.15 so got round in 1.06.02 if only I could do that for 26 miles I would be very happy but know I couldn't might be able to in a half come September and doing GNR again...........

Go get wet Redhead and all the best to you London marathoners. Must be less people doing sub 4.30 this year where are they all not as many folk on here this year. So many online forums nowadays I guess.

Ha ha Mark! Nothing entered after VLM, as I'm yet to decide what to do. Current thoughts hint towards a long rest (2 months or so without long runs) though "rest" could be a haze through which I blast the gym. I'll be expected to run a few races as part of our club league through the summer - mostly 5k, 10k and 10 milers, so that would fit my plans anyway. Lucky it was me organising the league and which races then...! Not likely to be doing an autumn marathon, though that depends on two things. How London went, and if friends suggest we jet off to Palma again. Would be nice!

Feeling strong this year but not counting my chickens till the 27th of may when I will count them on the start line. It was a flat course I took but pleased. Have a good run if out today thinking of Emma and the Parisian team this morning.
