Did 12.5 miles in 2hrs yesterday, was a pretty undulating route, struggled towards the end which is the first time I have felt like that since training! Oh well, they can't all be good runs can they?

I am toying with the idea of an ultra the london to brighton one looks like quite good fun!

NOOOOOOO !! Red I have a horrible feeling you may be right.. I've just dug out Dean Karnazes book to read again!...Someone save me...

Jenf, enter a 10k and get that speedy feeling back!

Morning all,

Aha, I see some new recruits being drawn towards ultras

Bigeater, I think you should try one of the fab off-road marathons in your area and then you'd be hooked - there's something really exciting about battling the elements (just as long as you don't have to be rescued)!

Intervals for me on the treddy later.  It's too undulating/hilly to do them on the lanes plus I spend my time hopping into the hedgerows to let cars/tractors et al past!

great hill sprints last night; 3 miles to get there, 4 x .4 mile with 2 hills as a figure of eight. Each hill is about 60-80 yards and fairly steep. I managed sub 6 minute pace for each sprint, popping down to a lovely 4:43 per mile pace on one! hurts a bit today though!

Good work Jim. I did 8x800 metre reps, 1 mile there and back, was running at about 3.45 for each rep, hurting today as well!

30/01/2013 at 13:09

Speedy boys!

Today I did 7 undulating/hilly miles @ marathon pace

30/01/2013 at 14:20

Well done Redhead, good work

30/01/2013 at 14:21

By the way that was 1 rep took around 3.45 not a 3.45 pace

30/01/2013 at 14:32
Redhead..... NO,NO and NO again... I will never do one of those crazy runs. ( 2 years ago I said I will never do a marathon....doh!)
Some good running been going on, well done everyone.
7.5miles for me at average 9.05 min pace yesterday in a hilly route with about half off road through the woods. Good enjoyable run.
30/01/2013 at 17:32

Good hills n speed work today guys!

I did 8x2mins,(1 min recovery) why does speed work HURT so much!! My recovery skins came yesterday, so I am now sitting wearing them...interested to see how legs feel later.

30/01/2013 at 18:23

resting tonight, short but fast tomorrow, then 10k race on Sunday. Next week will be backto high mileage!

I'm absolutely burst, right heavy day at work today, heaviest I seen it in a long while even including Christmas. Rested a little and then went out and did a right tough 6.1 miles. While running I ran to the edge of a path as it was flooded and scrapped my leg against a branch, it hurt but I just carried on but as it was dark didn't realise it burst my leg and when I got home the blood had ran down my leg and well looked hellish!! Gave my wife and kids a fright! Cleaned up with anti-septic spray and all good again well apart from a gash on my leg.
25.7 miles in total over 3 runs this week and some hard shifts at work so I think I've earned a beer and there's a nice peroni chilling in the fridge.

well done bigeater; hope the leg's okay "in the long run"!!! blood and gore are usally worth either sympathy or sarcasm, so it sounds as if you did well!

Slow 6 miles for me tonight, finishing the month on 154.8, or 4.99 miles per day. Not bad for a month sans motivation!!!!

31/01/2013 at 20:51

Good going bigeater, a peroni is def prescribed for burst legs!

I can report that after my speed work yesterday and wearing my new skins my legs felt really good! Did some serious leg work this eve, deadlifts, lunges, calf raises etc so plan on sleeping in my skins tonight.

Good luck with your 10k race on Sunday Jim.

02/02/2013 at 18:38

Beautiful cold sunny running day today, did my new local parkrun again and got a PB. I was inspired by the runner in front of me...he was pushing a buggy! I was determined not to let him get away!

ouch Jim..5.30 on a sunday!

02/02/2013 at 18:45

well done Jenf!

03/02/2013 at 12:43

Words fail me... so here're some mile splits...!

7:51, 7:55, 8:16, 7:36, 7:29, 7:50, then 0.21 at 7.21 (finishing at 4:54 pace!)

Total time for 10k race, 48:40, breaking previous PB by 38 seconds!
