Not been out yet, going out for 14 miles about 5pm as I was out on the beer and curry last night at a work do. Letting the stomach settle a little first. Thank goodness this is a fall back week, don't reckon I could handle a 20 miler!

Afternoon all,

Brrrrr again.  Oh my, that wind has been biting for the last couple of days!  Yesterday I did my little Kenyan Hills session and then today I did 18.5 miles, 8 minutes quicker than my 18 last week.  My route was just as hilly but my breathing was so much better.  Very pleased with that

LOL at Bigeater!  The curry should have given you a good clear-out ahead of you run    Denise, that was a quick pace for a LSR.  You are a speedy girl!  If I could manage that pace for 16 miles I'd be looking at well below 4:30 for a marathon

Afternoon people,

Some impressive running peeps! 15miles for me today along the Thames. Felt good but think will introduce gels next week. Anyone recommend a nice tasty brand?

So sitting on the sofa for the rest of day! Hats of to people training and have littens to still run around after.

Well done all, some great long runs being put in! Feeling very pleased with myself today, ran a negative split 18 miles, at an average of 9.07. Started at 9.50-10 min miles but finished with a sub 8 min last mile

Bigeater, how has your run gone? System all nicely cleared out?

Fenn, sorry only gel bars I've used was during VLM last time, they need to be taken with plenty of water or will dry ur mouth out! Jelly babies are a very tasty alternative though!

Is anyone running any halfs as part of their training? If so which ones?

Well did the 14 miles i said I was going to do at average 9.57 min miles. Bit of a struggle and can't say it was all that enjoyable but another run ticked off!
Wore new trainers, only wore them a couple of times on shorter runs and the outside of my left foot is really sore, hope it's just because my feet aren't yet moulded into them. Asics 2170 just a step up from the 2160,s I was wearing.

I only ran 13.1 miles (Sleaford half), but it was a slightly speedy 1 hr 49 mins 19 secs... my 3rd fastest ever, even!

Well doen those who got out and ran further!

denise/bigeater/fenn/andrew - good work on your long runs, good paces for sub 4.30

Fenn- I use maximuscle mixed berry gel, its isotonic so doesn't need be taken with water, therefore not as gloopy as other types. I can also buy it from Tesco which makes it easy!!! I also love extreme sport cherry jelly beans

Glad you're breathing easier Redhead,

I had a great time marshalling the Ultra yesterday, met some lovely people, and even ran a few miles at one point when I went looking for last runner! That was funny cos I was in my walking boots- felt as if I was in army!!  It was a really worthwhile experience, I'd recommend it. I will def do it again.

Hey Hey Hey!

Some good runs out there,,, Went out Saturday, managed 14.5 was snowing and i saw a parrot..... radom! Really pleased with the 2.11.39 time... 5.38km average.... which, when i look at the splits, was pretty much metronomical. That would bring me in in 3.57.... but i am under no illusions! I felt fit, felt good, but the right knee felt like a rusty hinge for the last 1/2km.

Going to nip to the gym today and lift some heavy stuff... may get a few heavy squats in. Then 4 miles tonight...

Ultra.... they do appeal to me... My run on sat was from faversham to gillingham... one straight road, down the a2... and i did think to myself... 'i reckon i could run to london'..... I suppose i just need a reason to actually do it!!

Oooooo, I can sense some ultra recruits.  To anyone who wants a challenge to feel really proud of I'd say JFDI  (please pardon my bad language).

Think it means " just f**king do it" and my answer to an ultra would be a big fat naw!!

whoops.... sorry... sleep deprived!

Bigeater is correct in his translation

I once wondered if I could run from Lincoln to London - it's about 140 miles!

...then I woke up!

its about 57 miles from Faversham..... i have cycled it in 3 hours 20.... i reckon i could run it in a day,' sho'!

I have a 'rusty knee' this morning.... is this the first sign of weakness ???

It is not swollen and only hurts when I walk down the stairs and is in one knee. Luckily today is a rest day...

just needed to share.

25/02/2013 at 16:19

Fenn, my knee hurt as I walked down the stairs this morning too! don't worry, it usually just means it's tight or something niggling. If it happens more often or not after a long or fast run, try some lower leg raises (e.g. sit on a chair and lift lower legs to straight, possibly adding weights).

25/02/2013 at 16:23

Stick some frozen peas on it Fenn or spray it with Ice freeze stuff.

25/02/2013 at 16:27

I know mine is due to a tight IT band....,,, so dont forget to stretch!! You will be fine... RICE and ibuprofen sorts out most niggles,,,!

25/02/2013 at 16:29

gym session was good by the way.... i have really found the benifit of some compound squats to improving my running...
