Surely there must be more than one HM in Jan (Cheshire Four Villages) and Feb (Dover)in the WHOLE of the country? So says RW's listing. Surely there are some good build up races for FLM around this time? Anyone?

I know of Blackmore Vale 1/2m at Bishops Caundle, Dorset in Feb-very undulating.

There's also Bath 1/2m in March and the March Hare 20 for pre FLM build up races.

Thanks for those hilly. Dorset sounds good but it might be a bit tough on my rookie running partner by the sound of it. I think March is too late to be running a HM (for the first time) - I know its a bit chilly on your exposed bits but there must be more going on? Anymore for anymore?

There is always the Fleet half at the begining of March, same time as Bath I think.

I expect the organisers just simply don't send absolute confirmation of event details into RW until nearer the time.

I think it's Rob Spedding who compiles them - he sometimes posts on the forums.

There is a big half in York in January (I think) and Liversedge half in Yorkshire on the 14th of Feb or thereabouts.

I had a similar question a while ago (for March halfs), and the RW people said that the race listings appear earlier for those of us who are subscribers. As I'm not a subscriber, I therefore can't access this info - but hopefully you are one?

I think (but may well be wrong) that January and February are big on 10 milers with half marathons popular in March when it's a bit warmer. If you want an event in February you could consider the Bramley 10/20 - great preparation race for FLM. Entry details will probably be in RW in November. It gets one of the 20 mile training runs out of the way without worrying about water and isotonic drinks.

If you are interested in Bath Half Marathon - good for PB as it's flat (2 dreary laps!) you should enter now as last year it was full by November. Entry form on: www.bathhalfmarathon.co.uk.

The Liversedge Half Marathon will be held in February (16th). The event is in West Yorkshire, and can be described as a tough course, which will test your winter training. For more info contact our Race organiser Michael Childe (01924 400125).
