mace the coach of my local club always says the following for your first Half
...it takes 4 days to get a training benefit, so nothing from Weds onwards
...last long run 13m SLOW (23 Sep)
...last hard run (subLT) before 16th Sep. [Instead of your normal 80% run in the week ending 23 Sep, do a 75% instead]
Nice turbo Fiona
OH enjoy the taper
Thanks all for best wishes to not-so-little-Tek. Another strep infection....
Ahh... I must remember to check in at the weekend!! Well done everyone on your long runs and races.
Nowt much from me - didn't run other than the 10k. 2.5 miles warm up and a 52 min 10k... 51.38mins on the chip. Really lovely event and we had quite a big team taking part so it was all round good feeling.
JE well done on the 10k - sorry it didn't make it onto the race list. When's your Half (I know your mara at Rutland is on the list)?
20.25 for me tonight. It was absolutely horrible, but it's done at least.
SM6 well done - a bit of déja vu feeling there! ... beginning of taper now?JE - 10k sounds good enough! esp with feel good factor
SM- 20 on a Monday? Well done
5ishm this morning in the dark and damp 6.4ish this evening in a MONSOON!!!!
Not much basking in that!
JEvans - Missed your post, well done on the 10k!
OH - Aye, taper time. Not exactly sure how to go about this. I had been following the P&D schedule (but sorta abandoned it and done my own thing a while back), and the amount of miles in the next few weeks looks a lot higher than I really want to run. 34 miles in the Sunday - Saturday (the day before Loch Ness) seems stupidly high considering I've topped out at only 57 miles.
Jason - Off work til Wednesday, so LSR today wasn't an issue. Nice running
Good swimming jason
Stuart well done on the final 20...I think it's fair to say most of us think the P&D schedules don't taper enough. I normally cut it in half - Gaz?
Well done guys.
The weather has also broken here. It was rainy yesterday now it looks much clearer with sunshine & wall to wall blue skies, however temperature is much lower.
Fiona - it's my main race, after i'll be doing another 10-12 weeks oh HADD before some sort of Mara plan for Brighton '13. Thanks for the advice, will take that on board.
Tek - again, sounds like sound advice, thanks very much.
7M this morning in driving wind and rain. To my amazement my Garmin showed 70% HRMax @ 9:05m/m. That's a bit of a WOW moment for me !!
P&D schedule doesn't taper enough for me either, last time I knocked a couple of miles off the last 2 long runs and took it easier generally in the last week and it seemed to work well for me.
Its going to be tricky this year though as I'm busy this weekend so I'm going to have to move the last 20 miler to mid week.
Gaz - I've thought long and hard about not using an HR monitor for my race but i'm sorry to say i'm almost certain i won't be able to bring myself to do it. I'd be up shite creek without a paddle mate ..... i'm going to need a lot more experience to be confident enough to leave it at home. About 6 weeks ago i had a panic attack when i started a run and realised i had no HR data cos i'd left the strap indoors ... had to go home and get it
Gaz good luck on the mid-week 20
mace LOL - well done. Just had a similar pleasing improvement - 8m at 9mm, HR 71%max with no drift - then another 5m easy with the club
Tek - nice one great feeling isn't it !!
That's a fair run for a tuesday am, what's a normal week look like for you ? About 50M isn't it ? How many runs and do you mix the pace up a bit ?
thanks Mace...I'm up to 70m this week, and I'm on a 3 month streak of running every day - 1 LR (22) (sub75%), 2 Mediums (13 and 15) (sub70ish), 3 recoveries (70% absolute ceiling) and 1 Tempo (90%ish).
Blimey Tek that's some serious mileage, and no rest days !!! Proper dedication to the cause.
Well done, you deserve to smash your target and i sincerely hope you do.
Tek & Mace,
That's good going.
...just tired of failing
Well done on the mileage Tek, I reckon you're a cert this time!
Mace, good luck with the race/ HRM I'm sure everything will go great for you.
