Last LSR today - 22m D&D despite a late night boozing. HR stable at 70%max until 16m, drifted to 75% by the end. Last mile at MP felt ok.

Chester Marathon Race Report

Since I decided that i was going to go out at 2.45 pace instead of 2.48 pace, today was always going to be a bit of a gamble.....as it turned out the pace was over-ambitious. A soggy first half mile or so across the grass of the racecourse and the metal gridded entrance road- not good running surface, soggy cold feet, but soon over with and all was ok. Everything seemed fine for the first 12m, when my hamstrings seemed to tighten up. Thought this was strange for so early on, but thought they would loosen up in a bit- WRONG! Couldn't open my stride out for the rest of the race and was actually quicker relative to those around me going up the hills 9of which there were more than I remembered!). Tried going for a sprint finish back on the mud of the racecourse (really didn't need the mud at this stage!) and actually cried out as my hamstring gave me a reminder- for one horrible moment I thought i was going to have to pull up and hobble the last 200 metres over the line- but thankfully not! Still, not as badly burnt from my over ambitious pace as I could have been- finished in 2.49.20 (by me- haven't seen official time yet), a PB by 7mins 25 secs, so not too shabby Faily happy- and now I have a target for London Splits tell the sorry story- lol! : 6:06 6:11 6:16 6:16 6:15 6:12 6:16 6:14 6:16 6:19 6:19 6:18 6:26 6:23 6:23 6:35 6:41 6:39 6:31 6:33 6:35 6:46 6:56 6:42 6:47 6:34 1:49

Jason thats a fantastic result mate you must be over the moon with that new PB and taking over 7 mins of your old PB at that level is bloody fantastic but this is so well deserved as over the past couple of years you have put in so much hard work. I for one are over the moon for you, well done again

No running for me today but a tough work out in kayak - 8 miles with sea stae 3/4 most of the way.

First post mara run for me today, turns out I'm still carrying a back injury Very strange that it appeared after 2500m running, but not 8 miles of hillwalking or Fridays weights... Another week off for me then.
