Advice for a first-time racer please!

Hi all,

I've been running for 4 mths now & will be taking part in the Great South next month (eek!). Now, I'm not remotely fast, not even in the same city as fast, so for me, it's about going the whole distance without stopping....

The farthest I have run currently is 7 miles without stopping, though I'm averaging 11 min miles. I don't want to get to a certain point & really struggle to stay focused, so considering I'm going to be running for about 2 hours, should I be considering having something to keep energy levels up (gels, jelly babies)? And do these things work pretty quickly? I've also been hearing about carb-loading, is that more for marathon runners? I don't usually carry a drink with me, but again, for this longer distance, should I be doing that?

I'm sure there are more questions to come, thanks in advance!
