Well I'm glad to see this thread back - I had almost given up hope.

I've just completed another Great North Run and am not planning on doing another one - too far to travel, too many people and I always feel under pressure all summer so now my goal is to get faster on some 10K's - in fact a more immediate goal is to keep running without putting in any walking breaks!

Hello to all basers!

I see from my Runner's World magazine that Windsurfin' Susie is quoted as a great advocate of base training!!!

Do you have one to compare it to Hipps?

Hello all, another BT'er returns to the fold.

Have a slight injury caused by ditching my BT training and trying all that tough fast training stuff - I want a marathon PB but only have a short time to prepare for that PB attempt. It was a calculated risk. I'm looking forward to a good winter's base training.

David, so sorry to hear about your knee - what's the latest news?
12/10/2006 at 11:18
David-yeah done lots of hadd tests

SHADES....waiting to see consultant on Nov 1...unfortunately at present it doesn't look too good...I have been unable to walk properly for the last (almost) 5 months...to be honest, I am not sure I will be back running...

Hipps...let us know how your next Hadd compares....
16/10/2006 at 21:37
Hey Hipps...congrats on your new pb...again...seems as though you are on a bit of a streak at present...training is obviously going well...sure you will get that sub 5 mara...just have to allow yourself to run that little bit faster...which I am sure you are capable of...well done..

((David)) so sorry to hear that, I hope the consultant can sort you out.

Morning

I never did a hadd test in the end

do you think weekly marathons sort of count as race base training?
is there such a thing?

David-bloody hell, i do hope they can sort you
not to be able to walk just isnt right

Hi BT'ers, I'm back Mara training for end of January, so I thought I'd pop in and say hello.

DF - sorry to hear about the protracted woes. Still glad to see you are keeping the base fitness there though.

Susie - keep bashing in the miles and it will pay off!

Hipps - You are amazing and yes I think weekly marathons must count! What's your average HR % for the last few Maras?

Well I'm doing 80% base work for the Mara, but adding a little spice with a mid week speed sesh. I want to continue my annual Mara PB and ideally get from 3:50 to 3:40 which will give me a 'C' start in Comrades.

Have a great day.

trini
no idea
dont wear HRM if racing

but going by trust rpe-the last one was done at 90% for the first half
20/10/2006 at 16:56
Trinni...Comrades should be a short run for you compared to your two day endurnace events.. ;-)

20/10/2006 at 17:11
DF - it's still a sod of a long way in one go! I will really pile on the BT from January!
20/10/2006 at 19:26
Trini...I have every confidence in you...it's downhill this year, eh?

Well - another 10K completed this morning (Natterjack Seaside 10K in Southport)- my times are getting slower (1.11.11) - I did however run this one without walking which is a first for a while although I managed to run faster with the run/walk technique.

I'm disappointed with the time - I'm way off my pb of 1:06 - I just can't seem to get anywhere near it - I'm not sure if the 'problem' (if that is the right word) is physical or psychological and I'm really not sure how to go about fixing it. Somewhere deep down I think I must be able to improve but just don't know how!!

Help???!!!!

At least I played great badminton this week!!!!! Maybe that's it - the running is getting worse but the badminton is finally improving after 12 years - every cloud has a silver lining....
