Anyone have any good tips on what to have as a breakfast before an early morning run, nothing to heavy just a light snack or something??

I do well on a banana before heading out of the door.  Cheap 'n healthy!

Any of the energy bars any good?

Couple of oatcakes with peanut butter, cottage cheese, jam, marmite etc as you prefer.  I can eat 2 almost immediately before running with no indigestion.

Have breakfast afterwards - less likely to get runners trots.

Energy bars are expensive and unnecessary unless you're planning on going long and even then I'd just take cash and buy something on route.

Half a pint of water 10 minutes before I set out at 5:30am, I even do this for a two hour long run on a Sunday, I just make sure I've eaten well the night before.

I just eat a lot the night before and have a few sips of water before I go out (usually about 6am). I can't eat or drink anything within an hour of running or I get a bad stitch so no option really. Good excuse for a huge brekkie when you get back!

i thought coffee made you dehydrate faster, yet i also read in the recent runnersworld mag that 3 cups a day can help ur running. Who knows?

usually have a couple of rounds of toast followed by baked banana and raisens about half hour before my morning runs - I  cant run on an empty stomach!

Bananas are probably the best thing to eat before a run, have you tried baked banana?  i dont like bananas unless they warmed up, about 40 secs in microwave,  add a few raisens and its a nice sweet snack!

I have tried a few of the energy bars but they seem to repeat on me, breakfast cereal bars are pretty good though ie the cocopop or rice crispie bars.

Its trial and error really, see what works for you

Before a long morning run I usually have a cereal bar about 20-30mins before; Fruseli and Alpen work the best as not too heavy.
