Heavy legs post illness/pre race

I am running my first half marathon this weekend and training has gone pretty well until this last week. I have had quite a bad cold (wouldn't dare to say flu being a man!) and thankfully it is now clearing up. I have however tried a couple of runs over the past couple of days over 5 and 7 miles where I have struggled due to very heavy feeling legs. Do I need to keep doing a few miles to run this feeling out of my legs or do I simply need to rest up until the race to get the energy back knowing that I have already done the large part of the training?
Any Help on this matter would be greatly appreciated by a nervous first timer!

Hi Warbs I often get heavy lower legs when I'm training and my fizzio says that (assuming you don't have any injuries!) it is purely volume of running and lactic acid in your legs, he recommends ice baths after every run if poss or at least after long runs.

Hope that helps!

Rest.

If it really was 'flu (and in fact it hardly ever is) then you're going to struggle.

Jog a mile or so on the morning of the race, then go with how you feel

Good luck!
