Afternoon all.

Muggy here with an astonishingly high number of tourists to dodge tound.

God, what awful bad luck Speedie. Is it muscle or joint damage? Hope you're on the mend soon (and Swerve ... and anyone else I've missed)

What: 12 miles @ 75-80% WHR
Why: Need to get running back on track post-holiday - longest run for a month and a day!
Last hard: Today
Last rest: Saturday (work awayday, which included copious amounts of alcahol and lots of very silly games ... I won the skipping competition!!!)

Hey Alison - Good luck in the Pride Park Relays ... If I wasn't in Iceland I would be doing them ....

Ay-up all

What:
(Lunch) – Gym : Weights – full body workout
(PM) – Run – Hills :
- Warm up
- 3 x ((6 x up & over hill reps, starting every 2 mins) + 1 min stretch)
- Warm down

Aimed to peek each hill at 94%MHR (+/-3%) and recover to 50%MHR – the last couple of recoveries only got HR down to 58%

Although this is a session that makes me come close to puking – I felt strong during and after the session

WHY : Strength day

Last Rest Day : Thursday

Have fun out there

Evening all,

What: Tough Hill session on treadmill due to heat with 20 mins warm up 10 lots of 2 min hills on the treadmill with 2 mins flat in between to recover and 15 mins warm down for a total of 14km.

Why: Weekly quality session in fairly tough marathon training week. Will recover a bit next week as have found a 5km race in Istanbul to enter which will be my first race here in Turkey (should be interesting)

Last rest: 11 days ago

Last hard: Sunday

Simon

P.S. Hope you recover soon Speedie and can still make your triathlon.

Well done Will.

Sorry to hear about injuries, Speedie and Swerve.

Speedie - one thing about backs is that the muscles panic very easily, and that Really hurts, so the injury often seems very much worse than it is, so gets better reasonably quickly.

Having said that, the right anti-inflammatories (not just pain killers) and physio afterwards - for me, just a simple set of pool exercises, makes a huge difference.

Swerve - is that an old problem coming back? In any case good luck sorting it.

Me? More optimistic today. If I get through the night without gut trouble I'll run tomorrow. It's been a long time now.

That sounds like good work WW.

Popsider, Speedie and Swerve, life sucks doesn't it? When you're striving towards healthier and fitter goals the weakness of the human frame strikes. I feel for you.

Popsider, how is Nottingham Marathon looking at the moment?

Speedie-what a nuisance for you! I know how you feel as my back is my achilles heel! Voltrol cream applied to the area is good along with asprin and paracetamol combined tabs. Hope it clears soon for you.

Swerve-hope your achilles soon repairs so you can get back to enjoying your running.

Best of luck to all who are carrying injuries, it's horrid when all we want to do is run!

Went out for a recovery run tonight, but legs were so sore after racing and doing a long run that I cut it short to 3 very gentle miles. Don't want to prolong the soreness!

Back from evening run - a strange one. Training partner was shattered after 20 miles yesterday so I kept shooting off on fartlek bursts. Then my knee started hurting and my chest started tightening as he got stronger, so I dug in as he wilted later and dragged him on further than he wanted.

Knee has now seized up and I don't know about racing Weds night.

That's really bad news Speedie, I hope you recover soon with Popsider & Swerve & all others, [rather a lot at the moment].

8M steady pm went ok but it's very warm & I'm feeling tired after yesterday.

Sorry to hear about your injury Speedie - just as you were in prime form.

Sympathies also to Swerve, Popsider & everyone else similarly struck down. Hope your niggles aren't too serious BR.

what: 6.1K tempo run

why: not sure whether I can get out tomorrow (night before going away) - lots to get done tonight also, so didn't see much point in doing a longer easier run

last hard day: Wed
last rest day: Thu

Run was basically ~3K into a brisk wind, ~3K back downwind. Worked fairly hard @6:25-6:30 pace on the outward half, found it easier (obviously) coming back, so wound it up a bit. Last mile done in 5:50 and was probably significantly faster than tempo pace - but by this time I was chasing someone must have been doing a long interval session - he crossed the road, motoring, about 100m in front of me, the competitive instainct took over, but in 3/4 of a mile I could take only 30m out of him.

BR

I think Nottm mara 3 hour target is more or less out the window. I'll run a half before if I can and see what form I am in but otherwise I'll revert to 3.15 and try my luck in the ballot for london.

Suffering a bit from the 'can't get down to club due to too much on at work' blues and lack of motivation.

Went for a long run last night at 7pm but got to 50 mins and felt faint, tired and hungry, so got to sister's house and her husband took me home. No idea why this happened as I felt OK all day.

Instead went for a run after work tonight and did another 50 mins and felt magic compared to last night! Legs didn't feel anythig from bad run of yesterday. Maybe I need to go after work as my body feels better then? Still facing the prospect of no club for awhile (got a Y6 prom Tues night) so I'll just have to take it easy.

Roll on these bloody holidays!! Hope the knee is better BR, maybe see you on Thursday.

Hello Everyone,

short route tonight with a bit of speed(up) variation occasionally to make up for two rest days over the weekend.

Downloaded Trailgauge and was impressed to learn that on my shortest route (3andabitmiles) I am trottin around at 7 minute mile pace. I thought I was about 1 minute slower than that so this is a nice surprise.

Gym tomorrow, then longer run on Weds (now I've written it I'd better go do it!)

Bad news about all the injuries going around out there - hope everyone soon recovers.

Andy
