I have the file but I have a Mac, loaded it up but can't find the drop down menu on the main screen, I assume your using Excel, is there a drop down menu on the main screen?

Fiona and HeOw maybe I am being a bit overly optimistic - yes I will start off with aiming for a mp of around 9.00min/miles and see how the training goes. If it feels good I can then increase the pace.

Delamere park run in 18.19 for me - People say it is enlightening to run sans Garmin - not me. As there are no markers I found it difficult to gauge effort/distance.Nice course though!

Thnaks to these threads, I've bought the P&D book and love it - i like to know why I'm doing things and the book helps make sense of everything. I'm going to be using the structure and ideas for my first half marathon in September, having a go at amending an 18 week plan.

Rachel - try getting a hold of their other book road racing for serious runners. It has plans for everything from 5k to marathon. That might be more helpful.

Oh look, it's Al. I am actually strenuously resisting the temptation to enter an autumn marathon, so no to Leicester although it's pretty local... though I have been finding myself having ideas like 'maybe I could just start the marathon training schedule anyway, then call and change my Robin Hood half entry to the full nearer the time...' Which is probably a bit silly. I should be sorting out my speed at shorter distances first, I think, then having another go at VLM next spring.

Hi all, I'm about to start a P&D training schedule (18/55) and was wondering what you think of the following paces. Do they seem about right for someone looking to run 9 minute miles for the marathon?

VO 06:46 LT 07:30 MP 09:00 GA 10:21 MLR 10:48 to 09:54 LR 10:48 to 09:54  REC 10:30   Some of these do seem quite slow to me (PBs below) and the calculators suggest that I should be able to run a much quicker marathon that's 4 hours, but I'm more comfortable aiming for 4 hours for now (I've tried twice and never managed better than 4:10).   10k: 44:07 HM: 01:39:50 M: 04:10:02

Adam - those paces look pretty textbook in terms of the P&D bible. Which ones do you think seem too slow? And what did you do differently for your last two marathons?

Adam - I've just done a 3:52 marathon and I run much slower than that for VO 2 and LT but with your 10k and HM times you should be able to go faster. I was probably doing MLR/GA and LSR faster than you have there but I was using heart rate and was probably going faster than I expected for a sub 4. If you look back a couple of pages, Lisa had more similar paces for sub 4 except a slightly too fast MP pace
