Blimey, I got Brighton Half, running workshop with Sam Murphy, and then Silverstone half all on consecutive weekends I am going to have to carefully manage the wife

what sort of time are you aiming for? i was initially thinking of just running it as a race and attempting to break my PB of 1:45.

but on further consideration, i think that the effort required to beat that time would at the very least blow out my training for a few days and probably increase the risk of injuring myself. so i'm going to run it as the first half of the VLM. try to keep to 9:00 miles, refuel as expected etc and just see how it goes.

I did my last half at a pace of 8:38 but due to injuries and time off i am much less fit than that now. I am aiming for a 9:30 min/mile pace this weekend at Brighton. If that goes ok I will go for 9:00 min/mile at Silverstone.

perfect. well, here's hoping all goes well at brighton.

I'm going for a PB at Brighton as it's my first half I'm in the blue start - optimistic but had a slow pen when I did BUPA 10k and spent first 2 miles trying to catch up. This time I will be the one people are weaving past.

Silverstone sounds good but I want to squeeze in some longer runs over the next couple of weeks and have just registered for the Finchley 20 in March too.

Keiith - Emmy - MAD!

Fan-bloody-tastic. Sister in law is visiting because she has some work to do down south and is staying at ours. She has the worst cold i have ever seen and is sneezing all over the place. I'm just recovering from a months worth of colds and coughs and now THIS. Really unhappy about it.

I'm holed up in my home office. Take deep breaths when i have to get near her like that's going to help!

Khani - fab offer for Silverstone, would love to do that but am much too far away

Lol re your sister in law.. wrap a scarf round your face!

Good luck all of you who are doing Brighton this weekend, am looking forward to hearing your reports!

Khanivore, your post made me smile! Keep washing your hands and maybe make her wear a mask? Also make sure she bins all her dirty tissues.

I got an 18-miler in this morning, with Shades words ringing in my ears about slowing down.  I'm pleased to say I averaged 10:07 for the 18 miles although I confess I did purposefully speed up a bit for the last two miles and did those at just under target marathon pace, but we'll gloss over that.

I'm off work for a week now, which is a bonus!

I'm down in Portsmouth with the family ahead of a half tomorrow, a day of pasta beach and bowling! Course has been modified due to weather damage, but weather looks good for tomorrow. Trying to PB , plenty of mud for 4 miles I'm told, but looking forward to it.
Good luck to those racing today, Shades another marathon and tomorrow in Brighton.

Did park run today and finished a little slower than last time i did it which was fair enough after last weeks efforts BUT i felt worse post park run than post quad.....

Still 25:12 isn't to bad albeit there was nothing that would have made my legs go any faster today. Heck i barely finished in front of a 14 year old girl.....

On way to Brighton now. V excited might do a Mo and just run half of it for training!!
16/02/2013 at 17:18
Ha! Ha! slowkoala!!

Whoever made that descion for Mo to run half the VLM course wants their head testing! Never heard of anything more ridiculous.

Good luck for Brighton and anyone else racing. I'm racing a ten miler in Plymouth. Yuk!

cheers! getting nervous about tomorrow but only cause knee is a bit niggly and its been a long time since last race!! excited though.. bring it on! might not be PB but hey ho!

16/02/2013 at 19:24
Tim let's meet up in Brighton! I'll pm you my mobile number.

I can get a train that arrives at 7:10 or at 8:00. I wonder if arriving at 8:00 is cutting it too fine though. They want runners to head to pens at 8:30 although race doesn't start until 9:00am.

The earlier train involves setting off really early

Wish I had got a park and ride ticket now.
