This Sunday, I'm planning 72 laps (18 miles)on the local grass 400 track because a) to see if I can keep constant pace b)its easier on my legs that the road for a change c)I'm gonna set up a table at the start with 2 litres of luccy sport and as much water as possible to pour over my head! Whats the most you have ever done on the track??

Ian, I'm impressed - I'd die of boredom. The most I've done is 12 laps of a tartan running track and the monotony nearly killed me.

However, I can see the purpose of using a running track to gauge consistency of pace and so on.

Minkin, I did 20 this mornign which was fine - I'm thinking about buying one of those small clip-on FM radios for this but not sure how it will deal with several litres of cold water poured over it!

Quite often do 4x3km sessions as part of marathon training which makes 30 laps. I must admit that it isn't one of my favourite track sessions mainly cos it is not fast enough.

Boredom is never a problem for me when I'm running with the possible exception of treadmills. that'll be why I've not ran on one for over a year.

I once competed in a one-hour track race on a cinder track. They used to be quite popular many moons ago. Being a lot younger and ftter than I am now I ran 17221metres (just over 43 laps, 10.7miles) - though I spent much of the race in Lane Two. I often used to do 5x1mile on the track back then and never got bored, but I rarely do track stuff these days.

Ian,

make sure you change direction every so many laps to avoid injury.

64 laps is the most I've done - dead boring though.

Thansk for the advice Pantman, would not have thought of that one - presumably an RSI thing?

Ian, another tip. If possible use the outside lane as the bend is not as sharp.

10,000 metres in a track race, given up racing on the track.

It might be a good idea to stop turn around & run the other way every few miles. We don't want you getting injured.

110 .75 miles which adds up to 443 laps in 24 hours, hope to increase it soon!
