hey! i've just started a new training schedule for a half marathon and its going well at the moment..
but it describes runs as;
"easy", "steady", "run", "jog", "race",
"fast", "slow"...

and i am not sure which ones are meant to be faster?? is easy faster than steady? etc?? what order would yiouput them in?

thanks a lot for your help, GJ x

Hello there, well heart rate wise (for me a 28 year old) an easy is about 130 bpm a steady is about 150bpm and I would presume that fast means tempo pace which should be around the 165bpm pace.

Slow should be the same as steady pace and jog is about the same speed as you do a quick walk and I hope you know what race is.
:-)

The way to judge your paces if you dont have a heart rate monitor is to say

Easy pace means you can hold a conversation whilst running but certainly could not sing properly.

Steady means you can blurt out a few words or a sentence now and again but wont be able to have a proper conversation.

Fast or tempo means probably 2 or 3 words at a time is about all you can do and anyone that talks whilst racing is obviously racing below peak performance although a very long race could be the exception.

Hope it helped and anything else u want to know just ask

djgj-Where's the schedule from? I would have thought they would explain some of these terms on there.

However try these (very similar to Mark's):

Easy: A recovery run, or slow jog which takes very little effort.
Slow: A slow pace, slower than you’re normal or expected Marathon pace
Steady: Approximately your marathon pace
Brisk: Your half Marathon pace, a speed just below threshold pace
Hard: Your 10 mile race speed or faster - up to 10k speed
Fast: Close to your maximum speed, 5k pace or faster Approx 95% effort

You may find a lot of interesting stuff on the 'Training' tab.
