Okay I'm a bit late to the party (yes okay before you start just like I was on Sunday) but have done this kind of thing informally in the past and I think it's gone okay (the mentees might disagree).  So if anyone is still on the look out then I'm happy to help.

I don't really do science or platitudes but you don't need either to perform well at something where output is so closely aligned to (your) input.

As you wish.

Rosey - Sorry I've been so busy at work... will reply soon

PMSL - I'm fuller than the winner of the 2012 Choco Dog-nut eating competition. I mean unlike dog-nuts more than two dozen mentees would be greedy right ;o)

I guess flying a bit under the radar these days people obviously don't know me that well anymore. The words smoke, blowing and @rse have never been uttered by me in the same sentence. You have been warned...albeit a bit too late.

As you'll wish you probably hadn't.

I'm late to this party too, and haven't really got much to offer. I know I won't have time to mentor anyone next year, but as always am happy to answer emails, pms etc. That said, there are far better athletes on every level here than me, so I offer my advices with humble disclaimers.

Looking for advice?

You're not **enter discipline** hard / long / consistently enough - fix this and you'll be faster.

For everything else ask Meli

I may print that and stick it on the fridge door.

This feels like a cross between an AA meeting and a dating site!!

Arriving late to the party (as usual!) as it's taken me a few days to realise, actually I think I'd like another crack at another long distance Tri and make a better fist of it next time!

Completed Outlaw this year, I wouldn't say raced as it was so slow.  But my aim was to get around and I managed that.  Training is my weak spot to be honest!  I can swim reasonably well.  More pool training during the winter would help, but I don't get along very well with chlorine.  It makes my skin itch and I always seem to get athletes foot after being at pools!  1.10 at Outlaw this year.

Following Dustboys Surrey rides I actually started to like the bike a bit, but suffer with back issues on long rides.  Being a couple stone overweight probably doesn't help there!  7.17 at Outlaw!

My main problem are my knees.  Slight cartillage tears on each one means it feels like someone's driving a nail through the knee cap climbing stairs.  This, in turn, has lead to Achillies tendinitus!  Masseuse at Outlaw said I needed to see a Physioterrorist as I have significant scarring on achillies that needs to be got rid of before running again.  (7.08 at Outlaw!! and the 'Pebble' award!)

I didn't follow any particular plan at all.  Bit of cycling here, bit of swimming there, but no running apart from one 5 miler!!

So, you see I'm a reluctant trainer!  Could certainly do with some structure and someone willing to cajole me out of the door, if I'm honest!

I've got a confirmed place at VLM next year, having missed the ballot for the last five years, so am hoping some training for that will help with my 'run' time next year.

Live alone most of the time and currently Surrey based, but hope to be in the West Country by Christmas!

Any volunteers from the 'Mentors' to take on a stubborn, overweight 50 year old would be gratefully received!  Replies on a post card to the usual address, your humble servant, Siggy!

p.s. can't make the London Social this week as I have to pick my 16 year old lad up from Guildford at 7.30pm on Friday.

Cheers!

Oh I've completed five marathons in the last 10 years the fastest (being the first) was 3.48, if that helps!  So I can do the run, when I train properly!!    But even then prior to that my longest run was 14 miles!!

Feck me Siggy, you've just descibed me!

I have a mentee at last.  Now I don't feel like a social outcast.

By not going long next year and a few things becoming calmer this end, I might actually find time to talk to him too.

Mouse you could mentor me

(caveat - I'm not intending to do one but the sentiment is there)

I did actually observe PS's laid back approach to this event (swim a couple of times, ride a bit more than normal but no training plan as such....   running... well I'm on week 2 of C25K and have trained more than him) and think if he finishes maybe I should consider this...
